trans error code help

I dont have the number at the moment, but it translated into the following: transmission fluid pressure switch start up in wrong range

History: Original trans imploded. Bought a used trans that had 6000 miles on it.

2003 Olds Alero
2.2L Automatic

Is this an easy fix or is it something that will require a bunch of work?

Any and ALL help is wanted and welcomed. Please fire away.

Ken

Re: trans error code help

Welcome to AF.

Does P1810 ring a bell? Which is an issue with the TFP manual valve position. The TFP/TFT assembly is located under the tranny side cover assembly (driver's side).

The first step is to make sure the ATF level is proper. Then check the transmission range switch and linkage to make sure the car is in the right gear when selecting gears with the shifter. Next remove and reseat the 20 way electrical connector to the transaxle. If above doesn't help then you will need to troubleshoot the TFP manual valve circuits to determine if the TFP pressure sensor is defective.

Re: trans error code help

Here is a GM TSB on this issue, you might find it helpful. This does require the trany to be dropped.
