86 camaro 700r4 shifting problem

first and second gears are fine but it wont shift into drive or overdrive. any suggestions. do i need parts or a new tranny?

Will it shift into 3rd? If you have it in drive not OD does it shift 2 times? If it does then bump it into OD and see if it shifts. I need to know this info to help you out.

no it wont go past second gear when in drive or overdrive

Sorry to tell you this but it's rebuild time.

i am not 100% sure if drive works but if it was only the overdrive that doesnt work, what part may it need?

hehe thats what mine did before it melted down , do yourself a favor and rebuild it before it goes critical . First It just had trouble shifting and I ignored it. Then I 3rd to 4rth got finiky , then no 4rth altogether. Then a few weeks later something came loose inside and got in the gears and shredded the whole damn thing , got it rebuilt and the guy went ahaid and used another core to rebuild , he said mine wouldnt even make a good core but if I had brought it in sooner it wouldnt have been as bad lol. Dont neglect your baby !!!
