02 GTP Shifter Assembly
ok, I took my car in to the dealer because my key was getting stuck in the ignition, they said my shifter assembly was bad. Is this something I can do myself? Or do I have to let them do it? delear wants 300 for parts and 150 for labor!

Re: 02 GTP Shifter Assembly
There is a solenoid that releases the key which when it gets weak or goes bad it will not allow you to remove the key from the ignition.

Re: 02 GTP Shifter Assembly
With ignition to ON, shifter in PARK, foot on brake what happens when you press the release button on the top of the shift knob?
You should hear the key release solenoid at the steering column clunk.

Re: 02 GTP Shifter Assembly
What type of clicking sound? Can you describe it better? Does it sound more like a clunk? Either way your shifter assembly may be OK and the problem is either the key release solenoid or the key lock cylinder. The best thing to do is remove the plastic covers at the steering column and watch the key release solenoid or measure for 12 volts at the solenoid electrical connector.
