Angry 97 Ford Taurus- Nothing inside works

Here is the story,... My alternator overcharged my battery. When It did that it jerked and everything. I replaced the alterator and the battery.

Now, I have no power windows, radio, speedometer, gas gage, temp gage, also, the milage does not even role over when i drive it. my turn signals only work when my hazards are on and my hazards dont even blink, my power steering is very tight, but pump works. My air bag light goes on and off. I was told it could be the TRS... I replaced it and it did not make a difference. I checked the Relays and wire and fuses under the dash and under the hood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Do you think it could have anything to do with the ignition switch?

Check for fusible links under the hood. If ont of those are blown, it can cause loss of power. Do you have power to all the fuses under the dash? If part of the fuse panel is dead, either a fuse under the hood, a fusible link or a wire had burned apart. Check fuses with a test light on both sides with the key on. Let us know.

I checked the ENTIRE fuse panal with a test light and none of the fuses are blown, I even replased the Relays just in case.

I hate to even suggest it, but from looking at wiring diagrams, it seems the only thing all those have in common is the GEM. But it would require a lot of testing before replacement. If you don't have a wiring diagram, click here and search for your vehicle and wiring. It is all free.

Hey there. Your problems sound a lot like what I experienced with my '97 Sable a few years ago, and then again in the fall of '08: Brittle wires going through the firewall area.
Here's a link to my story here on Automotive Forums...

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=549530

Hope this helps solve things. Take your car to a dependable garage (like AAA or CAA certified) - it'll save you $ and frustration in the long run, and you may create a good relationship with a mechanic who you won't mind visiting whenever the need arises.

Re: 97 Ford Taurus- Nothing inside works

What you need to do is to get the wiring diagram and an ohm volt meter and check for voltage at the fuse panel from the battery. Next, disconnect the battery and check the resistance in ohms of this circuit. In some cases, you may get voltage, but the connections are so corroded that the resistance is too high. Hence, the circuit is unable to provide any power. The corrosion may be at the battery or at the alternator terminals. Broken, frayed wiring may also cause this problem.
How do you know the alternator was overcharging the battery?
