Body Control Module on 01 Alero

So... I've come to the conclusion that I need a new BCM for my 01 Alero. Any advise for a rookie to this kind of part???

If you get a new BCM off the shelf it will need to be initialized or programmed using a GM Tech 2 scan tool.

What are your symptoms?

Re: Body Control Module on 01 Alero

Basically... the radio no longer stays on after the key is turned off. If I leave the keys in the ignition(not even turned), the "dinger" still dings even after the door is shut. My dome lights stay on all the time, unless I turn them off. My lighter doesn't work. Thats what it does now anyway!

Ok. I see. Thanks for the update. No retained accessory power (RAP) and other accessories not working. And the dome or courtesy lights light staying on is classic BCM.

Re: Body Control Module on 01 Alero

Hey everyone, I am having a similar but yet more severe problem with my 01 Alero. Just a few days ago tried to start it in the morning and nothing. Thinking it was the battery I replaced it and it started once then clicked. Now thinking it could be the starter I replaced the starter and charged the battery. Started the first time but shut off immediately after and when I tried to start it up again it cranked but would not turn over. Now some background, this car has had its security light on for a year and the "service engine soon", "service vehicle soon", and "anti-lock" light on for also about a year but these three lights came on at the same time. I have been fixing cars for about ten years but I am no expert. Doing some research I found a common link between all four lights and that was the BCM. I am thinking that the fact that it does not turn on now is due to the fact the BCM is continuing to travel down its destructive path. I checked the fuel filter and it was clear and not clogged. I can hear the fuel pump priming and I checked all the fuses dealing with ignition and fuel and nothing corroded or burned. Does my idea of the BCM being the problem seem likely? Once again I am not an expert but I do know how to fix problems but this one has me stumped. On top of that me and my fiance have the same car different trim but the same motor and everything. Her car is the one not starting but my car also has all four lights on and I would like to figure this issue out before my car doesn't start either. Thanks for any ideas or opinion they are really appreciate it. Sorry it is so long.
