Exclamation Blower motor stays on even after car is shut off.

My sister in-law's car a Oldsmobile Intrigue 2000 model v6 engine has the described problem above. The blower motor will stay on even after the car is turned off. I first tried pulling out all the relays in the under hood relay and fuse panel. That didn't work. Then I checked all the fuses on the inside of the passenger door fuse panel and tried pulling them out to get it to stop and nothing worked. So, I eventually went back into the under hood panel and started pulling the fuses out and eventually I found that the BATTERY fuse #2 which is a 60 amp will stop the blower from working. The only problem is that my chilton's manual does not have a schematic from the battery #2 fuse, actually the book never references the Bat #2 fuse.

The craziest thing about it is that with Bat#2 fuse out and the vehicle turned on the controls still work. The only thing that is lost is the power doors and locks.

The Chiltons manual does reference the blower control module as the component that handles the battery power directly. My best guess is the battery control module. This diagnosis can be shot if there is a relay before the battery control module or right after the battery power itself.

If anyone has a detailed schematic that would be great and if not is this the best diagnosis or has anyone seen this before.

Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron: this is what i found for your car. the max fuse feeds the blower fuse, haz lamps, stop lamps, mirrors and door locks. the 30 amp high blower fuse feeds the blower control module control module and the blower motor resister. looks like the blower motor control module might be the problem. good luck Trueman

HAd the same problem with my blower staying on after the motor stopped. in my case removing the blower fuse for the high setting keep it from running when the car was off. It turned out to be he blower resistor.

You might want to check TSB's for this issue. I believe there is a diode that needs to be installed on some of these to prevent stray voltage from the wiper system away from the resistors. I'm not sure what makes and models but I know some of the newer grand prix's have the same issue and there is a diode kit available from the dealer to correct the issue after the new resistor is installed.

Re: Blower motor stays on even after car is shut off.

The issue with the blower motor running with ignition to off is either the blower motor resistor if manual climate control or the blower motor control module if you have the automatic climate control (ACC) system. The blower motor high speed relay is included on these components and no longer a separate component so when it shorts the blower motor stays on even with ignition to OFF since one side of the relay coil is hot at all times or tied directly to the battery supply and not via the ignition switch.
