No Highs no Lows...it must be Bose!
There is a phrase among better car audio shops when the discussion is the question about how to improve the Bose system: "Bose goes!" Because of the weird impedance of the speakers and the famous unreliability of the speaker amplifiers, most knowledgeable car audio dealers truthfully suggest removing the amps, speakers and head unit, replace with four channel amplifier (4 ohms), four coaxial speakers (4 ohms), and a CD headunit. The improvement in the sound is amazing, and the reliability greatly improved. Dealers are not allowed to sell a replacement amplifier. They must sell the customer an entire new "pod" which includes a speaker attached to a small amplifier at an absurd price. P.

replacing Bose system or any 124 system
There are many excellent head units which are reliable. All are made "offshore" in an Asian country. Sony Mobile ES, Alpine, Kenwood, Panasonic, Clarion, Eclipse, Pioneer, etc. all work well. It is important to repace the o.e. speakers with four ohm coaxial speakers. Using the same brand speakers as the head unit usually works well but better speakers like MB Quart cost more and sound better. You can find any of the above equipment on line (Google) discounted. P.
