Inline transmisson fluid filter
I have been pondering the addition of an inline transmisson fluid filter. Would this be a good idea or not? At swap meets i have seen remote oil filter setups for sale. I would use the one with the small size filter ie. ac pf47 etc. Would this be a feasible up grade? I would be adding a tranny cool at the same time. If it is feasible which of the stock cooler lines would work best? source/return? I read an article several years ago about this subject but i cannot find it in my stack of stuff library. Thanks for any information.

Re: Inline transmisson fluid filter
Thank you oldblu55 for the reply. I went to the website you supplied. They have the systems available. What i was looking for was has anyone had any experience in doing this mod? If they thought it was worth the effort etc.
Thanks from novaz27 |

Re: Inline transmisson fluid filter
in cases where there is a hard-to-replace filter screen... look at hondas/acuras for example... this would be a GREAT mod to prolong the transmission
if you have an easy to access trans pan/filter like GM & chrysler & ford, then nope...not that worth it since you can do this annually to maintain a clean fluid in your auto trans The aftermarket, COOLERS, though are a great mod for ANY auto-trans vehicle, since they're separate from your cooling system & has it's own mini-radiator... if the OEM/ main radiator gets clogged/overheating, both your engine and trans will suffer since the trans cooler is a small section of one side of the radiator endtanks |

Re: Inline transmisson fluid filter
When it comes to automatic trannys, simple is always better. People often try to do as much with it as they can for that short little cooling loop, and end up just doing more harm than good.
The filter in the pan does a great job. No additional filtration is necessary. I think you would find that after 50,000 miles, the external filter would still look clean. Plus, you'd be adding restriction. That loop is low pressure, but a pretty high flow. Any restriction you add will have a significant affect on the flow of fluid in the tranny. I do like the idea of adding a cooler if its a heavier car or spends any time racing.
