Well, AFs new features enable social groups. I just set one up for all of us AF Car Modelers.

I think this Social Group feature is meant to add a different layer of categorization.
Imagine a spread sheet, if you list the existing forums by row, the groups can be listed by column, providing cross forum interactions.

More specifically, let's say if you're interested in British cars, you'll probably like to talk about real cars, collectibles, literatures, etc. This Social Group feature can put British car enthusiasts together "across" the existing forums.

I'd join Z-Car, Porsche and British Marks groups, once such groups are created.

But if you create a group that coincides with any of AF's existing forums, the members and topics will most likely be similar, or even redundant, right?

I think that's the cause of the confusion.
