Towing AWD?

I hope this topic is in the right spot, with a million forums to pick from, I wasn't quite sure the best spot for my question

My girlfriend's car was wrongfully towed today. She was parked at a local Chili's parking lot (to make a long story short, she had to pay the tow company $150, but in the end received her money back from Chili's as they admitted the wrongful tow)

When she saw her vehicle, it was towed about 50 feet from the original spot. She talked to the tow company, and they said they were waiting for a dolly, because the car was AWD (apparently it wasn't going that great because the rear wheels weren't moving ).

Is there a possibility that the tow company could have damaged anything by dragging an AWD car? It's not like they dragged it on the freeway, or for a long distance, but it still happened.

Just curious what any car experts have to say about it.

The car is a 2001 audi bitturbo quattro. Not only am I asking specifically about this car, but more in general just so I know for the future.

Re: Towing AWD?

Most likely the only thing they damaged was put a flat spot in the tires. If the wheels didn't turn there is little that can go wrong. I might keep an eye on the CV joints, it might have stressed them a bit, but as long as nothing broke with a big bang, things should be fine.

Re: Towing AWD?

it depends on which wheels were on the ground and if the center diff spun or not.
i agree that the worst is that the tires skidded a bit and maybe put some stress on the driveshafts or what have you...
