Prisoners in Cuba

I am interested to know your views on the dozen or so people still being held by the US in Cuba indefinately VS the appeal to mercy from Iraq for American soldiers.

Can the US dish it out, but not take it?

Well lets see. How many pictures or tapes of the prisoners in Cuba do you see on TV? None have been shot in the head. Lots have been returned to their homes. Its simply no comparison

Agreed, we are not killing the soldiers which we have and then posting for all to see are we? We are not war criminals, we are keeping them alive and clothing them and feeding them. Iraq is executing them because they are losing a battle that they could have prevented in the long run.

I think there is quite a direct comparison. Keeping them imprisoned when THERE ISN'T ANY WAR as opposed to what you have mentioned.

And what EXACTLY did Iraq do to deserve to have hundreds (or at the very least, many more than American soliders) of their civilians killed? The answer - have more oil than anywhere else and a psychotic dictator running the show. That's not justifiable means for war in anyones books.

What I'm primarily concernes about is the appeal for equitable treatment of soldiers VS the treatment of soldiers in Cuba.

Its because we feed, cloth as well as provide medical needs for our POW's. Iraq does not.

Ok, Just because we are keeping prisoners in Cuba without a really major thing happening in Afghanistan doesnt mean that the United States government doesnt have their reasons. We are treating Those prisoners just as they should be treated- like prisoners. The same goes for the POW's we have in Iraq. I hadnt heard anything about hundreds of Iraqi civilians being killed and Ive been watching the news every night and day for the past 4 days, oh well, I may just be an Idiot. The fact of the matter is, we are asking for Humane treatment of our POW's because we are treating their POW's in a humane nature, they have Killed the US POW's they have.

well jon we are killing civials in this action. although they are not intentional deaths as some people like to make them out to be. but i woudl liek to see our pow's treated in the same manner we treat ours. that would suffice for me.

Im sure there are going to be civilian deaths, but I havent heard about "Hundreds" of them. It is war, people will die, innocent people, you cant just always kill the right person. Besides, who is to say that some of those civilians didnt take up arms and attack troops? Im not trying to use this as making it ok to kill civilians, but you dont know circumstances ALL the time. Just to reiterate, civilian casualties will undoubtably occur, it is one of the many pitfalls of war.

Ilike2drivecars said it best.. Civilian Casualties is a fact of war. I'm sure if this war was fought on the US front, civilian casualties would occur.. but I digress.

The POWs in Guantanamo Bay are Taliban related. Remember 9-11? When the US was attacked? Jog your mind a bit... it'll come back.. That's why we have POWs, to get Osama, and destroy the Taliban.. Unless you think they are being treated unfairly too.. "oh no, don't kill those poor taliban.. "

By the way, remember the 3,000 of our civilians that died two years ago?

You dumbass, at least 10 American soldiers have died. 1 Iraqi civilian has died. Nice numbers.

Except for the bridge with buses, commuters and what-not that the American "Military Intelligence" (I can't type that without laughing) "accidently" bombed the crap out of.

Americans as a people seem to very simplistic and naive. This is not a black and white situation as 100% of you choose to see it as.

The US is not the Paternal country of the world. 'We know what's best for you' is the prevailing psyche. The majority of the world does not care what you think is best for them and gets the fucking irits when it is shoved down their throats.

I am personally ashamed of my countries involvement in this whole facade/sham, but actively support our troops because all they're doing is their job - carrying out orders.

My last mention is the 'embedded' media. Those journalists travelling with units are getting complete tunnel vision and are able to report only on what they are personally seeing. It is nigh-on impossible to get an accurate overview of the operation with patch here, patch there reporting.

First paragraph: Civilian casualties are a fact of war.
Second paragraph: We seem to be doing fine for ourselves with our "simplistic and naive" view.
Third paragraph: Not all of the US thinks it is the paternal country, and by you saying that, makes a huge generalization.
Fourth paragraph: This might sound redundant, but it's true: Why don't you go live amongst the Iraqi people and maybe you wont take your freedom for granted. I do applaud you for supporting your troops, despite what you believe, or for whatever reason.
Fifth paragraph: Where do you get your information? The frontline? Where did that information about the bridge come from? It is hypocritical to chastise the media and then use information from them in your own arguments. Some of it is factual.

Yes, I was merely pointing out that Pick was wrong.

Define: fine

Maybe not actively, but the pervasive attitude that exudes is that of 'do as we say, not as we do'. I almost cried with laughter when Bush (the clear aggressor in this conflict) said he would charge the Iraqis with war crimes if they didn't treat American soldiers humanely.

Thank you

You have completely missed the point
