Paint effect
Does anybody know how to get this colour/effect?
Is it a metallic or gloss paint with a flat or satin/semi-gloss clear coat? http://www.seriouswheels.com/2008/bc...-1600x1200.htm http://www.seriouswheels.com/2008/bc...-1920x1440.htm http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showthrea...ex.html?t=5215 I've seen pics of a Ferrari F430 with a vinyl coating instead of paint, which looked similar. http://www.carblog.co.za/2008/05/05/...0-matte-black/ Thanks in advance, Jesse. |

Re: Paint effect
I'd say you can use a metallic or a solid colour of your choice and add a flat- or semi gloss coat on it to achieve what you're looking for.
Kind of popular with metallics and candies with flat coats or flattening agents in the kustom world of autos. Niclas |

Re: Paint effect
Tamiya Matt Black for the black cars and Testors Magnesium Metalizer for the other one. In order to get the best finish, you'll need to make sure your body prep work is top-notch.

Re: Paint effect
What I did to get this paint effect (same as seens on rally cars black hoods in the 70's) is to use black primer from Citadel and polish it with compound.
that gives a nice result. |

Re: Paint effect
Hey Jesse,
I achieved a very similar look with some Zero metallic black with a testor’s flat lacquer overcoat. I can't post pictures now, but if you want, I can post them later tonight. Stuart |

Re: Paint effect
Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry, I haven't been online to reply for a few days.
Some photos of the results would be great. All of the suggestions seem like they would work. I also picked up (for other reasons) TS-82 Rubber Black, which I'm going to experiment with different clear coats. And I agree with tonioseven, everything - prep through to final coats would have to be top notch. Thanks again, Jesse. |

Re: Paint effect
I've used the rubber black for a couple of different purposes in my Lambo WIP thread . . . might be some help to you.
