Jonesing for a ride!!!!!

Man this winter sucks. Here in Michigan, we haven't had any kind of a warm up to squeeze in a ride. I actually pushed the bike to the far back corner of my garage and put the cover on it so I don't have to look at it mocking me. Did I mention THIS WINTER SUCKS!!!!!

Here it is, a beautiful summer in Oztralia and i have no bike!
I'm relegated to my (as Speed puts it) my Huffy! and having to do all the hard work myself.

Re: Jonesing for a ride!!!!!

Ahhh, put on yer big girl panties and go ride...the other day I rode to work in 13 degrees, just to see if I could do it.

Never mind that I think I peed my pants a bit and didn't even notice, or that I couldn't get my right leg over the seat afterwards. When I pulled my hands off the grips, the Jersey gloves stayed frozen to them, and it looked like there was a ghost on the bike. That was cool.

Now if I could just find my damn ears...

Re: Jonesing for a ride!!!!!

I used to get my mid-winter kicks by taking a dirtbike out in the snow.

It's a bit slick but it improves one's riding skills, imho.

The biggest endo I ever did was riding my '79 XR 185 down s long hill, riding on a thick crust of icy snow (which it turn out was covering about 3 ft or powder)
The front wheel broke through the crust at 30km/h and the bike stopped dead. I pitched over the bars... lots of fun.......

The forks were bent up so the rest of the ride was pretty interesting.

Bite me Larry,

I'd need outriggers to ride here! We keep getting snow and our local governments are broke and can't afford/don't believe in plowing or salting the roads. Not to mention our high temps have been in the teens and 20's lately, so I'll keep my ears where they are, thank you very much!

I've been riding in the cold, when I can. But I have the same problem of lots of snow and ice to deal with!

Re: Jonesing for a ride!!!!!

That's okay - the weather in Nashville has been pretty dang nice on a few different occasions and my bike is in snowy Pittsburgh. I get tortured by all the bikes that go past my house - and I don't even have a Huffy like Blayne to get some sort of 2wheeled rush. At least I can't be tempted to break from my gym-going schedule because of nice weather!

Re: Jonesing for a ride!!!!!

I've been lucky. We have had some cold temperatures, 18-20 degrees. Most days are in the 50's I've been out riding a few times already. Although I really need to work on the bike, I just can't turn down a ride. I went on a toys for kids run right before Christmas. 18 degrees, that was fun.

Just what I need to hear!!
We have sub-zero temps and so much snow my Caddy looks like a snowbank with ears.

FWIW, your 60's temps are God's way of compensating for hurricanes and tornadoes .

LOL, yeah, my bike was only 2 weeks in my ownership when I got it,then Ike came blowing through.
First thing I did that morning was go check on my bike that morning, it was good.
I keep it at a public storage.
This morning, we are at 34 degrees.
