95 Lumina, Speedometer erratic and car wont shift

hello.. I have a pretty old car and I ran out of gas a couple of times, I know thats bad for the injectors, well, the car began to hesitate a little bit, but today, on the freeway, the speedometer fell from 60mph to like 20mph and rose back again, and behaved erratically after that, when I came out of the freeway, I noticed the car would accelerate very slowly and didnt shift, like its stuck on third shift or something, but whats weird is that it shifts into reverse and park normally, and I have good acceleration on reverse shift, this is why I beleive its stuck on a high shift I think this might be a regular problem as I once saw an oldsmobile with the same problem.. I would thank any tips on what the problem might be.. thanks a lot...
cars a Lumina Sedan 1995 with 150 000miles..

Welcome Aboard!

Check the signal from the VSS. It determines what the speedometer indicates and when the transmission shifts. There should be a stored error code if the signal is missing or intermittent.
