If you don't have the label in the trunk, then it's the hard way (visual inspection).

the pan bolt pattern will reveal what transmission you have...on the passenger side of tranny there are codes stamped into the metal ..this will give you all the info to id the tranny..the other place would be at the rear of tranny...

Cast into the bellhousing on the passenger side will be the code "MD8". Also, without looking at that, the pan will be rectangular in appearance. I believe that from 1991 through 1993, the TH700R4/4L60 is the only trans available on the Caprice.

Re: I have no SPID Label

The RPO code for the axle is stamped on the front of the RH tube. As long as you are under there, you might as well get that, too.

If you slide the radio out of its mount, it likely still has the paper Alpha label on it.

You can determine the interior trim codes just by looking at the upholstery and options.

The exterior color codes should be easy to determine.

Spring codes may be difficult if the Alpha labels are gone.

The engine, ABS, and assembly plant codes should be identifiable based on the VIN number.

The tire, wheel, brake, spare tire, audio system wiring, emissions system, HVAC, alternator, trans cooling, towing package, and many other features should be apparent just by looking. A new label can be built and printed from what you determine.
