Exclamation Oil Leak....WTF??

Hey guys, so here is where I need your thoughts.....

My 2.5RS is in the shop today for its 60,000 fluid change and all that....
the shop(a Subaru shop no less.....) calls and tells me I have an oil leak at the oil pump and it needs to be rebuilt.....
I was completely going WTF??

I have a designated parking spot.....at work and at home.....no oil on the parking spot.....either....I checked the oil level last week, oil level is fine.....

I have just about never heard of a Subaru engine leaking oil, so this in itself struck me as weird, I don't beat the car, so it's not like I have over-driven the engine either.....

What are your opinions? I am 50 miles from the shop right now so I can't go and stick my head under the engine and see this 'leak' myself, which the shop knows, but I don't want to hand over $300 for something that doesn't exist.

Do you guys think he is bullshitting me, or is there really possibly and oil leak?

Thanks all

Ray

The oil leak could be internally, because if the oil pump is not producing enough oil pressure (psi) then there is a leak, (internally) and would never see it outside. Tell him to show you the psi reading.

I know about that, and asked about it actually, but he said it is leaking externally.....I have told them not to touch it, I want to examine it myself before anything is done.

Being an engineer with an automotive background in the engine and differential assembly side of things helps I guess.....

Just wanted to let you know - Subaru engines do leak oil. My 1995 2.2L had a similar problem - it was leaking oil, except not through the pump but through a gasket. After talking to a dealer, I learned that this is in fact a trouble spot for some Imrezas. Most of the time however, a rebuild is not necessary (even though that's what they'd recommend...) - the leak can be isolated and patched up. But with a leaking fuel pump it may be another matter... Just my two cents.

Weeks late.....
I have since got under the car myself and confirmed the leak, it is the gasket, and it is nothing significant really, more like some minor seepage....
BTW, the 1995 2.2 is significantly different to my 2.5RS
