Fog lights wont work.

I have a 2001 Gran Prix GT it has the 3800, i kinda have several problems. I replaced the multi function switch several months ago. Now my fog lights wont work. I have checked fuses, and everything else i know to check. Also we have a shake in the front end when you accelerate. I have replaced tires, axles, and had the wheels checked. I dont know what else it could be but the trans, i hope not. Can someone help me please. My wife really loves the car, i'm begining to dislike it. I forgot to mention i replaced the multi function switch. I bought one out of a used car seems to be working fine, but fog lights quit working about the time i put it in. Would this have something to do with it?

Re: Fog lights wont work.

Does the fog light relay have good ground and power when the switch is on?

Bad Ball Joints and tie rod ends can cause a shake up front also. How many miles are on the GP?

Maybe the wiring schematic will help out in diagnosing your Fog Lights. They both just aren't burnt out are they? Also, you can swap the fog light relay with another in the fuse box for test purposes. Just make sure you plug them in in the right direction.

Re: Fog lights wont work.

No they arent burnt out, but i will check relay next. It has just over a 100,000 miles on it. The ball joint were checked. I appreciate the input. gives me something else to check on the fog lights.

Re: Fog lights wont work.

I would look at the steering gear. Accel generates torque steer and the steering gear (I refer to this as the complete system from steering wheel to the tie-rod ends on the knuckles) has to resist the torque steer, as minor or major as this might be.

Re: Fog lights wont work.

My intermediate shaft is shot, but I just get a slight vibration in the steering wheel, not the front of the car.

I'd be willing to bet since it has 100,000 miles on the clock, if the tie rods are still original, they are the problem.
