Need Advice About Engine/Tranny Swap issue

Hi everyone. It's been awhile since I've been in this forum, but I got a problem I need help with.

My main throttle bearing is going bad in my tranny and the tranny needs to be either replaced or serviced. The shop I took it to at the advice of others specializes in Hondas and Acuras only and easily diagnosed the problem as the main throttle bearing. I had hoped it would be the release bearing instead and I was quoted a price of $675 to replace the bearing including parts and labor.

My question to everyone out there is should I just maybe do an engine swap? If so, which engine should I try to get and could anyone recommend and dependable and honest vendor, either in FL or online?

The price seems good to me, but its way over $700 for repairing my current tranny. Also, it really screws up my plans as I was planning on possibly selling my Civic and getting a Prelude to play with.

You should be able to find a 6th gen tranny for a couple hundred and it will take a couple hours to put in.Get a swap if you want one,but if you are just looking to get a running tranny,get a Helms,some tools and make a day of it and save yourself a few hundred bucks.Also that ad is for a long block you still need the tranny,shiftlinkage,mounts,ECU and any other parts it is missing.

Well you want to get a siR II 96+ since your car is OBD II,and the link is for that motor.But you still need to get a complete change over,not a long block.You don't want to get a B16A1 or siR 89-91 since it is a OBD 0 motor and you will have to replace all the sensors,injectors,distributor and all other electronics and get a hydraulic clutch.If you can find a 96-97 B16A3 from a USDM delsol vtec it is also a straight drop in,but they are pretty hard to come by in the states since not many were imported.

you have an hx like me so i say buy a 96-00 ex tranny. there plentiful enough and you could find 1 for $200 or less. plus with the ex tranny you'll get shorter gears which will in turn make your car alittle quicker.
compared to the hx's tall gears.

you could install it in an afternoon with a friend.

I did doublecheck the motor and he said it would be OBDII from a 96-98 Japanese model.

I've been discussing my options with friends and I think what I'll probably do is drive it until the tranny nearly destroys itself, then either get a replacement tranny and get it pu it or do the entire swap.

I'm actually trying to do the swap for less money, but is this the most cost effective swap I can do or is this engine more of an exotic swap?

More power is always nice, but money isn't growing on trees. Just trying to find out if there are better choices for OBDII motors that will just drop in......

Also, is there a way I can swap the tranny without jacking my car 10 ft in the air and dropping the engine. I know on my '88, that was what I had to do, but I don't see it being any easier on a 6G. I think the only way I could do it is to pull the engine and tranny right out of the top.
