Need help ith engine-tranny swap
Hi everyone. I’m a newbie here by registration but I’ve been reading the forum for quite a while. I need some advice and some answers to some questions involving a swap of an early 350 Chevrolet with a turbo 350 trans. Into a 95 Trans Am. The 95 is loaded and comes with the LT1 but I want to swap a carbureted engine into it to bracket race. What I need to know/
1. Will the older engine with regular dist. and tranny fit? 2. How do I do away with the computer control. 3. Can I do it and retain all my stock gauges without a lot of idiot lights shining. 4. How about keeping the air and power steering, yeah I know I’m spoiled. 5. The engine is in a 74 vette right now that I race. It has a 60’ time of 1.80 and runs 8.40 at 88 mph in the eight mile. Will the stock rear hold up to this. All replies will be welcomed because I’m completely green on this even though I’ve worked on cars for years. |

Re: Need help ith engine-tranny swap
The Vette has a 60' time of 1.80, not your ride. That is in traction, not power. Plus, remember weight. Not sure of the weight of the Vette. Either way, stock rear-end would be a weak point.
Carb the LT1. Keep that motor. Not sure why you would want to ditch the LT1. That LT1 shouldn't be too hard to get a mid 8 in the 1/8th with. Good luck with the swap.

Thanks for the return post. I've been asking myself the same question about the LT1, who make a good carb. intake for it?
