|
excessive fuel use
my 95 jimmy just started using alot of uel. I talked with a guy I know who also has a Jimmy who said he had to replace the engine because fuel got in the oil. I noticed my oil level has gone up and looks thinner. Is there fuel in my oil? Is it too late for my engine if there is? The engine still runs ok.

Does it smell like fuel/gas in oil? If there is fuel in gas park it untill you get it fixed or you will be replacing engine. What engine and engine code? Check fiuel pressure for leak fast leak down. Any check engine lights or codes? How is the tune up end? Any engine missing cylinders?

It runs fine. But I used twice the fuel to go 80 miles with it. It hasn't set any codes yet. I checked the oil and it does seem to swell a little gassy and like I said it is now above the full line on the dipstick.

The strangest thing happened. I spent part of the day Saturday replacing the injector/regulator assembly outside. I didn't want to run it with fuel in the oil. It wasn't as hard as it looked. I then started the Jimmy up and it made a knocking noise and ran real rough. I then pulled it into the garage when the SES light started flashing at me. I then quickly shut it down. I had to wait till today to bring my scan tool home from work and when I started it this time it ran smooth as can be, no knocking or anything. I then took it for a ride and now it runs just fine. Hmmmmm?

Maybe just had to burn off the crap left over first? Extra fuel, buildup of carbon... I think a flashing SES means misfire. Did you check/clean your plugs after your replaced the spider? They might have been gunked up.

Looking back it did have a clean spot in there. But didn't really pay much attention to that. I talked with a mechanic who said the injector lines were empty causing a dry fire in the cylinders. He said that's what caused the popping noise and rough running. He also said there is way to purge(?) the lines before starting it. But wasn't sure how to do that.
Took the Jimmy to work today and it ran like a dream. Haven't had a chance to take it very far yet to check the fuel mileage.

That was a good picture of what you see when you get in there though. Not a very hard job. It came apart real easy and went back together real easy. Took me maybe an hour to do.
