i suck any suggestions

I have only made one model so far (soon to be posted turbo integra).

I had the hardest time apinting the integra. i wanted it to be black but i kept screwing it up. if i sprayed too much it would look runny, but if i sprayed too little it would look dusty. I tried primer I tied both can paint and an air brush but could not get it done. I have heard that black is hard to use but this seemed impossible. I will soon begin a drag civic and would like to paint it black. if you guys have any suggestiopns they will be greatly appreciated.

The fact that you finished it makes you alright with me! Painting is one of those things that you have to practice and develop your own technique for; I mess up almost as many paintjobs as I get right! The more time you spend correctly preparing the body, the better your chances are of your paint being like you want it.

I fully agree with tonioseven. No shortcuts to training yourself to paint correctly.
I started 5mths ago only and I learn slowly from wherever I can. Lotsa of tips from this forum and lotsa experts here to guide you along.
I screwed up on my 5 projects but through the course of it I learn 1 very important thing i.e patience and perserverence.
U can learn as much theory as you want but the practical part is very different.
You need to spray more and learn as you go along. Every inidividual applies their paint job differently although there's a basic guideline to it.
I overcame the fear of screwing up my models and kept trying.
I dont profess to be a good at painting but I wont give up, never! hehe

You need to make multiple light coat to get a good result... if you have no patience, or are too existed to finish your kit, you should considering changing hobby

Take your time, put very light coat (my yellow Supra took 6 coat of paint.. it's a record for me) it's the key !

Don't know what type of paint you are using, but it sounds like you are spraying too close.

I use automotive paint (Halfords brand from the UK) and here is my routine:

First, as it is black, I use grey automotive primer. Leave to harden/cure for about 1 week. I usually give it a gentle wet sanding with some 1200 grade sandpaper, as this leaves it smooth resulting in a smoother paint finish.

Secondly, after giving it a wash and once it is dry, you are ready to apply your black coat. I usually mist on a general coat all over, then apply more coats closer to the body. You don't have to do it all in one go, you can leave it for 15 mins between coats. Remember to always keep moving the can in a steady pattern. If you stop, this will allow the paint to build up leaving runs. It is always advisable to shake the can well and follow the instructions. Alternatively, you can place the can in warm water for a minute to allow the paint particles to rise by the convection action of the heat.

Finally, leave to cure for a week or two. Rub down if needed to remove 'orange peel' affect, and apply you clear coat in exactly the same fashion above.

Yo !, I have been through the same thing, painting and when it dries it looks like the shit ran or it was blown with pixie dust. I read the AF FaQ and it talks about spraying very light coat from about 12 inches from the item and sprayinig many coats to achieve a good consistent paint job. I will be the first to tell you that my latest project came out excellent doing this. No more brushing painting for me nor runny hoods. Good luck man, be patient cause it will get better. I have killed about fifteen paint jobs so far and gotten two good ones. Frustrating doing all that precious work only mess up the paint job ain't it. Read the Faq page and it will end.

Another thing is that achieving good finishes take time and practice. All of us started somewhere, and just get beter as we go. I beleve for myself, and I have noticed this, that I learn something new w/EVERY model I do. You will progress, it takes time. Keep at it!
