Question Nissan GTR-parts in a picture frame ???

Hi,

some of you may have seen these Tamiya news:

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10079071

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10079070

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10079069

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10079068

(also available are motorbike parts, f.e. http://www.hlj.com/product/tam21202 )

Whats your opinion about that (look at the price of the Nissans: over 400 Euros each !!!!!!!!!!!)

Who would buy them?

Collectors of GTR automobilia. I think they're pretty cool actually. In very limited numbers they may have some collectibility for the price. We aren't intended to be the customers; I doubt any builders would be interested, this is for collectors of GTR automobilia or perhaps someone who just thinks it's a cool display. It's hard as a model builder to look at this objectively as a customer. We are not customers of this kind of thing! We would build it ourselves.

Re: Nissan GTR-parts in a picture frame ???

Yep, I agree.
But they're doing same thing with bikes.
To me isn't a good sign: marketing managers have ever more power in Tamy decisions.
This kind of stuff cost them nothing: no cost for molds, low cost job made in china (ok may be they import everithing from china than they place the glass and write made in jp ), and, like Paul said, they open the market on other kind of customers.
I would like if they come back on their marketing core business (ok not those done by $ numbers, but by tradition, philosphy, story) and pay their marketing employes to find better subject, better and cheap way to do molds (ex. alu molds, cost a portion and you'll do fantastic mid-production models) and to produce, insthead bang on heads doing stupid frames

Like I said they have a whole new opportunity to invest, alu molds cost nothing, but you'll do only "small" quantities (few thousands?) so they'll create a whole new product: a model that cost more than a standard plastic kit, less than a "garage resin kit" , but withou massive tools cost, and with the usual Tamy quality.

ok, just skipping rojalties, so no motorsport stuff...

They look pretty cool I think and probably would look good on an office wall in a car dealership or something. But maybe not something I would buy personally.
However if they did an F1 subject....??? Maybe I could be interested....

on a more interesting note is the GTR with engine from Aoshima.
Looks like its time for buying everything needed for a kit bash.

er, i mean help the economy by injecting more cash into the system.

Re: Nissan GTR-parts in a picture frame ???

Thanks for your comments.

You are right, probably the modeller isnīt the customer they are looking for.

Anyway, the price is too high IMO and if the parts were not just painted and OOB but look more like the real thing, it might be even more interesting

Most of the cost goes for labour to make the parts. Each has to be prepped, painted, some polished, detailed, decaled, etc. Yes, sometimes the prices can he a bit high, but keep in mind what goes into each display.

Re: Nissan GTR-parts in a picture frame ???

I'll never pay more than 400 € for an unbuilt model when I don't spend them for a built one !
I also see this kind of item more as a collection or even decorating item than as a scale model...

and why don't do the same with a 45 euros kit ?
just don't glue parts together but on a wall !

I'd love to have it, but I'd probably just tear it down and build it sooner or later. They are however, great references

An interesting piece.
Between a kit and the finished model.
Is it art?

Found this on the nissan gtr forum

Re: Nissan GTR-parts in a picture frame ???

The price for building at comission just raised...

For my part, interested in the bike arena I must say it looks pretty lame just painting and putting the parts out like that, they've just put the molded pieces in a spread out pattern where many of the parts from the original bike would have looked different if taken apart.

I agree with the posts above that this has to be seen as a new marketing segment but 50 000 yen for a painted, unbuilt, model. Come on. But some people do pay crazy money for other stuff I'm not interested in so why not for this type of item...

For the record though, can someone please buy a set and find out how they attached the parts to the backing .... ;-)
