I dont often get involved in here any more, but this is something I will be Vocal about.

DONT FUCK WITH IT!

Honda spent a lot of time tuning the B series engines and the stock engagement point is as close to perfect as you can get.

In a 1st gen B16a its between 4,800 and 5,200rpm depending on load and in the 2nd generation engines its around 5,500rpm depending on load. I believe the B18c is also at 5,500rpm.

The stock ECU takes into account throttle opening, engine speed and road speed and engages the 2nd cam profile accordingly.
Useing a set point on an aftermarket ECU removes this ablity, and there is nothing worse than dropping out of the 2nd cam by only a 100rpm mid corner. Most of the time the stock ECU will prevent this happening, a reprogramed ECU, or controller will not do this.

The only time you ever need to alter the engagement point is you have a wild set of aftermarket cams, but then these should come with a recomended engagement point if it needs changing, and even then it should be set using a Dyno.

Don't listen to anyone who claims thier car is faster because the raised or lowered it, they are talking BS, and a simple run on a dyno will prove them wrong.

i recently got my pr3 ecu chipped. vtec kicks in about 4800. and it added more air and fuel. it made a noticable gain in my engine when your talking about power. it feels much better. we were pretty surprised on hell well my pr3 accepted the chip, usually it doesnt accept it like a p28 would, but its pretty close.

oh my d16z6, I've played around with my rpm activated switch throwing everying in from 4100 to 4900 and really i cant tell any difference. I thin i would need a dyno to be able to see if it actually made more or less power. maybe this is just sohc vtec though.

I woudln't say it sucks, it gave a 1.6L SOHC engine 125 horsepower as oposed to 108 horsepower. sure its nothing compared to a dohc vtec, but still its not suck.

I would like to differ there chief...I can feel mine just fine and I have mine kicking in at 4,200RPM's but I have a little done to mine and a single cam running 15.4 with a DX tranny isn't too bad....especially when I have a few time slips and video's with me Beating Hatches and Crx's with B16's or single cam turbo crx's? I would say my single cam is not doing to bad...and I'm still in All motor trim.

that and I have leaky piston rings in my #2 cylinder...I'm just waiting to install my JE 11:1's then I should be hitting the mid 14's with a single cam. You should be running what.....14.2's or so I would say at least...there's a Crx here in town running 13.5 in a crx with a B20....You should never underestimate a single cam....they only have like 5 lb's less then a B16 when it comes to torque! now you have to remember your driving around a 2.0l not to many honda's have that feeling.

oh, and there are stock GSR's that Vtec kicks in @ 4,400 it really just depends on what kind of mods you have done to your motor. Most DOHC'c don't like to go to low I know unless it's a GSR I wouldn't go lower then 4,800. If you kick it in too soon then there's just too much lift on the Vtec cam and you loose torque and then you loose the best of Both worlds and thats why they invented vtec in the first place...good luck with your tunning.

Sorry I really didn't mean to come off cocky but some people can make single cams work.

post slips

if you dont, i dont ever want to see you brag about times again.

anybody who has ever went down a drag track will have a time slip, and if you get a good ET, that time slip is gold. If you have it, show it.

I tell you what I was all pist off at first but I deleted everything I wrote I tell you what you grab your best ones and I'll post a few of mine...but I have 6 out of 8 with .5 reaction times! my slowest that night was a .617 and my best ever is a .508! You sound like you think I'm lying that's one thing I don't do.

I've been racing since 92 I would really like to see one of your timeslips your pretty much running the same set up as me and I still have a DX tranny too. I hope you can drive with comments like that.

i dont have any timeslips. but you know what? i dont claim to either. Im just tired of people saying "i run this" "i run that" with nothing to back it up. If you are racing on the track and kicking ass, more power to you. I would just like to see some slips for once

Does anyone here remember old Vince from PH days?

Username was 13secondcivic.

He drove a SOHC VTEC powered 4g that did 13s. Ok it was tuned, but it was still his daily driver.

........................and Im glad some ppl still remember me. :finger:

Oh yeah Moppie..we remember him. He has turned to an Oddesey freak tho. He has the 240HP 3.5L with a 75 shot on it. I saw him in the back of Honda Tuning a couple months back in the "weird burnout" section or something - lol

He seems to have forgotten about his 4g family since he sold the Civic and went the family-mobile route. What I loved about his ride was that not only did it run 13's, it looked prestine!!
