raced a honduh couple nights ago

...toasted the mofo

i dont know what model it was, or what year - looked like an early 90s model.

i was cruising by him like 10+ mph on I-25 (my speed musta been about 90) at about midnight. all of a sudden i hear this "bbbbbuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" sound coming from the right - and ive got a 500 watt sub system, not to mention that i listen to my stereo full blast.

so i'm looking at this car that is right next to me - i look for about 5 seconds, then it dawned on me - this car is TRYING to pass me! bahahahah.

so i floor it - it downshifts, i take off (well from his viewpoint anyway). obviously i toast him on the curves. then i take my foot off the gas to look in my rearview and he is still back there, trying to catch up to me. i floor it again, we go around a curve - take foot off gas, look behind - and he is still trying to catch up about 200 ft back. gotta give him credit - he didnt quit!

we do this whole shpiel two more times. i finally floor it, and never look back. i hit about 117. after several miles i slow down, and look, and he is no where to be seen.

whats up with these honduh drivers anyway? jeez. someone needs to give them a reality check and tell them THEIR CARS SUCK! they are going to get themselves killed thinking their honduh was made to go at those speeds.

that same drive i found a long stretch of highway on the boulder-denver turnpike. i floored it... i couldnt get past 119

i noticed the car was at ~5000 rpm, which means it must have been in 4th gear. i guess that would give more power than 6800 rpm in 3rd.

anyway, 119 probably isnt that bad considering i'm at 5300 ft.

I hate to have to say this but.... you were going that fast too, what makes you think your car could handle the speed any better than their car? I've seen some Honda's with VERY nice suspension setups, eventhough the outside of their car may look stock, or like crap in some cases.
Hell, I consider my suspension to be "faster" than my drivetrain, but what can be considered safe at 117mph?

It wasn't meant as a don't street race post, I'm not the one to give that speech by any means. But I just wanted to point out the fact that he was also doing 117 or whatever it was... so how is the honda the only one to blame?

other lives werent at risk - only mine and his

Quote:
what makes you think your car could handle the speed any better than their car?

the P11 has the same front suspension as the 300ZX and Skyline - both supercars. It has front and rear anti-roll bars, and a rear multi-link beam suspension. the tires on G20t are speed rated to 129 MPH.

No - I think 117 is just fine.

Mind you - his car did look like crap from the outside. Now, I ask you:

If his suspension setup was so great, why would he spend all that money on it and not a dime on the engine? His car was SLLOOOOW.

And if his car IS so great in fact - why would he bother racing a 140hp G20? He knew I wasn't paying attention to him when I passed him.

True - I might not know the full limitations of his car, but look, I know mine's.

BTW - his honduh never got to 117 - only I did. Like I said - I took my foot off the gas periodically - around 110mph. I DIDN'T want to go up to 117mph, but only did it at the end to teach him a lesson. Maybe now he knows that his car just ain't all that. maybe I did us all a favor.

and honduhs do suck - they were made as economy cars. just because you can put nitrous in a car doesnt mean you should. not that his had it - but many honduh racers do.

final note: I was perfectly well aware of the fact that a bad piece of asphalt could have sent my car flying. the point to realize here is, I was aware of that.

hey look what i found from SE-R.net. this is from the october '98 technobable article from sport compact car:

"Drive the G20 hard and you can feel both the front and rear tires being fully utilized in a corner. It's a relatively rare feeling in any front-wheel drive car, but especially one designed to have totally safe handling for even the most ham-fisted driver."

satisfied yet? so dont yell at me, yell at the other guy whos "performance" car topped out at 110 mph.

So are you trying to say that the NSX or the S2000 are made for economy?
Or that a 1.3l Pulsar is a performance car?
Try leaving your cave and having a look at the outside world.
Both Nissan and Honda make Performance cars, and both make Cars with economy in mind.
As it happens Honda is a world leader in terms of Economy,
But Nissan is a world leader in Turbo'd Sixes.
Honda makes some of the best FWD chassis in the world, while nissan makes some of the most practicle mid sized cars (primera) and one of the best large cars (maxima).

Both Makers also suffer from poeple buying the slowest economy models and adding lots of pointless bolt ons and then thinking they have a fast car.
Iv had a very similar situatoin to the one you described above occur with a 1.8l Primera trying to pass me, he never had a chance, but did that stop him trying?

And in case your wondering yes I drive a Honda Civic, and yes I know its a lot faster than your car. It has more hp and weighs less. But Iv also driven a Civic that externaly looked very similar, but I know would get walked on by your car.

If some dick in a riced out 1500 Civic thinks he can race you and win well that his own stupid problem, he has no chance, but dont think this reflects on all Hondas.
Just like the fact that my fisrt car was a 998cc Nissan dosnt make me think all Nissans are slow.

Damn dude, take a chill pill. Did you ever think the guy wasn't interested in racing you at all, maybe just trying to pass and when he saw you going faster he just said "screw it!" and disappeared?

BTW, for the price you paid for your car, it better handle better than any stock econo car...

You guys need to chill, BTW. I can only get up to 100MPH in 3rd gear in my 94 G20. (And that is redlining it in 3rd)

holy crap dude! I didn't mean this as a flame by any means, apparently it was taken as such, sorry i should have been more specific or something. All I was trying to say was that you were going faster than he was... and then your bitching at him for trying to keep up in his shitty ass car, then saying all honduhs are like that? I guess i should have replied differently... oh well, it's the internet... stuff isn't always said like it should have been, sarcasm is very difficult to interpret, as well as any other emotion. I agree very much with Moppie too, that's another thing i was trying to get at... the stereotyping of honda's, but once again, must have not expressed it properly.
And I do know all about the suspension on a G20. I've done quite a bit with my car's suspension, and i'm in the process of trying a couple things that I don't know anyone else has tried, at least here in the US, I'm sure there are couple people somewhere, but i bet i could count them all on one hand... But that's a different thread all together...

I still have yet to loose to a Honda. But the funny ones are the guys in say a VW Jetta or New Beetle. They wonder why they get toasted, hmmm. Lets not think too hard. Besides you have to wonder about a guy driving either of those cars.

You have point, but I would rather get an Acura than a Honda. Acura seems to pump out stronger cars than Honda. I would have to point out that Honda would not be the fastest FWD car in the world.
