sensor should be mounted behind harmonic balancer (crank pulley)

If you have a code P0316, that is misfire detected in first 1,000 revolutions of engine. The crankshaft sernsor is a P0315. If you have a P0302, try repairing that code and erasing the memory. This should cure the P0316. Good luck.

One place to start would be to use periods in your posts so we can tell where one thought ends and the next begins.

A misfire can be due to spark, air/fuel ratio, or compression. Spark can easily be intermittant. The symptoms you describe though sound common for a spark misfire. Since you say the plugs and wires are relatively new, make sure the wires are seated securely on the plugs. Are the wires quality wires? If not, it wouldn't be all that surprising if one or more of the ends have poor crimps.

Re: 2003 ford taurs code po316 and 302

I have a 2002 Taurus with both codes as discribed above. I to have replaced the Spark Plugs and Wires and still am having the exact issue. I have doublechecked everything going from each spark plug to the coil. Everything is seated nicly into its connector. I continue to recieve the P0302 and P0316 codes. I dont know what else i can do. I guess start looking into a fuel issue (injector)? Oh i have also check for spark on number 2 cylinder found out it has plenty this hard way. WOW what jolt it had !!!!!!!!!

Re: 2003 ford taurs code po316 and 302

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately a painful shock can occur at a lower voltage/current than is required to fire a spark plug, especially if you are sweaty. Checking compression and making sure cylinder #2 is inline with the other 5 may be a good check to perform as well. There have been some folks on other forums finding broken retainer clips from fuel injector wiring connectors. The connectors probably were broken during past repairs, such as intake manifold gaskets, etc. and it took them a while before they no longer made a good connection. You might closely inspect the connections to the coil and fuel injectors making sure the connectors are properly seated with good retainers as well. You could also try swapping the new plug in cylinder #2 with another cylinder just to make sure the problem stays with the cylinder rather than following the spark plug. A few people have been finding cracked spark plugs only after exhausting all other possible sources of misfire.
