Spark Plug Inquiry

Holas!

Been searching the internet looking for answers and can't seem to find a clear cut one. I have a 2000 Chevy Metro 1.3L 4-cylinder car which had been sitting in storage for 3 years and prior to that was ran dry of oil twice by previous owners. Still haven't had the chance to really work on the engine to fix the blue smoke issues yet One thing at a time though. (You should see the exhaust manafold, it's caked good lol)

Spark Plugs tho is what I'm currently looking at, they're due for replacement. What is the best type of plug to get for this type of car? Should I bother with the high performance? Or just use standard regular plugs? Mileage is hitting 140k.

Re: Spark Plug Inquiry

They where probably NGK's from the factory. If so I would stick with them. Whatever the factory used is your best option whether its just a plain plug, or iridium, or platnum. Stick with the O.E. plug and you can't go wrong.

Re: Spark Plug Inquiry

Platinum and Iridium last longer, but other than that there's no difference. If you're burning that much oil you're going to foul them quickly.

Re: Spark Plug Inquiry

If the engine has been run dry of oil and now smokes a lot, it may be "Shot to Hell and gone...."

Do a Compression test !

At 140,000 - probably the exhaust valves are burned - especially number one cylinder's.

If the rings are gone, then you could do an engine overhaul yourself.

I did my 3 cylinder myself at 150,000 miles and have, essentially, a new engine - and I'm a hack at engine work plus I was 63 when I did it.

Buy a Chilton or Haynes Manual if you don't have one.

If you have the patience try reading thru my thread(s) on fixing my '93 Geo Metro
all with pictures taken as I did it.

I would suppose it isn't much more to do a 4 cylinder engine...(?). Yes guys...?!
The guys on this Forum can help you do it - they are good folk.

Have a look at :

There are a lot of other nefarious threads that I interspersed in this Forum concerning
this and that....do a search of DoctorBill and they'll show up. Gas Tank replacement,
Front Wheel Bearing replacement, messing with the Throttle Body, the Injector, the Distributor,
door replacement after someone backed into me, etc etc.

Hope my experiences and picture taking while doing the repairs helps someone.
