Free cam/valve software?

An associate has asked if I know of any software to easily model up the cam profile, rocker and valve to predict valve motion.

I do have the full solidworks package, but he doesn't and he'd like to do it himself. Not withstanding the time it would take to model everything up.

Does anyone know of anything suitable?

Comp Cams has a free download that lets you view dyno simulations of engines running their cams. Its called CamQuest. Download it free here:

Otherwise the DesktopDyno software is pretty cool. The old DD2000 is darn near free for downloading on the internet. It has been replaced with newer software, but I prefer the older version. One tip I can offer (and I can't stress this enough) is to READ THE USER MANUAL. I can't tell you how many times on forums guys complain that their engine only makes 300 hp when DD predicted 420 hp. You have to know how to use it. I suggest downloading it, then trying to reproduce dyno charts of known combos. Once you have it, try to copy a chevy ZZ350, or a stock Olds 307. Once you understand how it simulates, then you can put in your own combos.

Thanks, I'll pass that along. I suspect it's for motorbike engines but this guy is clever enough to fill in all the blanks.
