Re: What will be the self life of NEW engine oil?
To add to that, before using I'd shake the bottles before opening to make sure everything is blended. Also make sure that the oil meets the minimum specs for your vehicle. Every few years they improve upon the oil and come out with a new designation. The first letter begins with an "S'' followed by another letter,(i.e. SG,SH,SJ,SK.SL) Each new letter signifies a better protection plan that the oil offers newer engines. (You can use a "SL" rated oil in your engine if your owners manual specifies"SJ",or "SK", but don't use a 'SG', you can always go up but can't go back). The designation for the oil is usually found on the back of the container as part of the starburst label. The designation for the type of oil is also in your owners manual.

I'd give it three years max. After that you risk the additives coming out of solution.
