Ferrari 250TR "Pontoon Fender" by Hasegawa
This is my version of the recently released Hasegawa kit of the Ferrari 250TR.
The kit is terrific. In my opinion one of the best - if not THE best - 1/24 plastic kits available. The kit is well detailed, molded just about perfectly and the fit of parts is simple astonishing. The only hurdles that the kt presents are:
I built this kit OOB a la Klutz i.e. "On the Box" rather than "Out of the Box" as I wanted to see if it is possible to make an interesting model without investing additional money in after market parts. All detailing (including the diorama) was made using exclusively material that was provided with the kit. Engine and battery wiring and seat piping was made with stretched sprue, sprue was also used to make the starter key, keyring and street lamp. A staple used to close a part bag provided a tie-down for the battery. The diorama base was made by cutting up the kit box and instruction street. I used the Hasegawa photo etch wire wheel set to replace the base kit wheels. Color scheme is based on the original 250TR s/n 0718TR All in all, I can thoroughly recommend this kit. Outstanding job Mr Hasegawa, Mr Tamiya should be worried ![]() Full progress thread can be found HERE Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking

Re: Ferrari 250TR "Pontoon Fender" by Hasegawa
The job is fantastic, well you know already how everyone wrote in the wip, so no surprises: one of the better and funny threads to follow, also for the OTB
![]() If I may leave a little note is on the color choice, not livery but color kind: I think (but is just a taste's thing) that a vintage racer would be painted with gloss itself colors, insthead flat base+clearcoat. On the other hand almost any "concours restoration" I see has its good 2 cm thick clear and wax on the top, so.. On the hasegawa quality: I thrust you despite I was a bit perplexed when I seen the kit: din't got yet since my MFH collection, but if you're so enthusiast it would be good: I got old Hasegawa stuff that are simply stunning (XJSs, 944s, a bit less the ponies despite the 328 is great) and some of their aircraft is absolutly top class, living the "diecast backplate" time it's a good news!

Fantastic build, Steven, stunning model and diorama, and very ingenuous all the way. Congrats on an awesome model for the collection.

Beautiful model and base!
I have seen that particular TR in person and you have done it justice.

Re: Ferrari 250TR "Pontoon Fender" by Hasegawa
Beautiful model! Fantastic take on "OOB" building
I built one quite similar, based on photos from a car in Switzerland. No stripes though; once the next issue of Scale Auto comes out I can show it off. I also built it OOB, also had the cracking issue (only one side, covered w/Scuderia shield). I really did enjoy building the kit as well, I have a second one to build in white w/blue stripes (like the MFH kit I have but probably won't ever build...too much white metal ).

Re: Ferrari 250TR "Pontoon Fender" by Hasegawa
Congrats. What a strong finish to the finish line. Donīt mean to name myself a prophet, but I kind of saw it coming out that nicely. Great work and thanks for the very interesting and entertaining WIP. More of that, please!

Re: Ferrari 250TR "Pontoon Fender" by Hasegawa
Hi Stevenski,
an absolutely stunning job you did on this "OOB" build. Fun to read WIP thread and boy what an outcome... Like I said in the WIP, I like your interpretation of the term OOB. Might it be that your diorama base is a bit warped? Cheers from Karlsruhe |
