A little help with my axles, please?

Im replacing my CV joints on my late 85 944 and im having some problems. First off, why in the WORLD did Porsche decide to use internal spline bolts!? So far ive managed to destroy 4 out of 6 of them on the transmission side. Anyway, i have the Haynes manual and the entire shop service manuals (about 6 or 7 volumes) and there is no specific instructions on dropping the axle. I know i need to remove the 6 internal spline bolts on the transmission side, and im pretty sure that i need to remove the 6 on the wheel side. But do i need to remove the hub bolt? This is really a pain in the @$$ and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i had problems with my CV joint, it had worn out in my right rear axle. It was making a clicking sound, especially during acceleration and turning. If this sounds similar to your problem, I simply ordered a rebuilt axle for 170$ and replaced it all. A MUCH easier job than replacing individual CV joints etc. But that may not be what you need to do, it just worked great for me.

I am likely going to need to replace mine this summer, 205,000 miles on the originals and once in awhile I'm getting the clicking. I haven't worked with mine yet though. I'd suggest posting this question on the Rennlist, they have some very knowledgable people on that sight who would know the answer for certain.

I took mine off and I didnt' need to remove the hub bolt. The whole thing took me less than 20 minutes each side, after I finally figured out what tool I needed to remove the bolts.
