new to forum!

hey guys!
im hoping this is in the correct space as ive read everything a "newbie" is suppose to and couldnt find a actual thread for newbies. i did however find a link put up by jay! that sent me here!

anyways, my name is ocean and i just started constructiong models again this month! i found this website when i was doing some reasearch on the model i am currently building.

i origianlly started modeling when i was at the age of 10 or so and have not touched one sense then.

i dont know what it was, but something bit me quite fierce. in the past month i have dropped close to 2grand on supplies and models! i have made it a promise to myself to use only tamiya supplies and i have been doing some reasearch into vallejo (sp?) paints as i bought a color from my local boardgame store. when the paint is thinned it has a excellent feel to it when it is brushed on!

ive realized im really into japanese cars from the 80's, and im all about tamiya, fujimi and aoshima.

i have yet to complete a model as i have only a hour or so a day and all day monday (my day off) to work.
i am currently building on a Toyota Carina ed. Autopista (tamiya 24068)
i am building it straight from the box and the only upgrade being some flocking. i may add some carbon fiber when it comes in!

i am hella anxious to get this car completed so that i can post some pics and the such! i am also looking forward to get to know all you guys and learn as much as possible from each and everyone of you!

thanks and this place rocks my socks!

Welcome to AF!

Wow, 2,000 in a month? You must be hooked! But then if you know that you enjoy it, why wait? You'll see plenty of older Japanese stuff here. Hasegawa has also done some older Nissans and Toyotas recently, and they are really terrific kits.

We'll look forward to seeing your build.

Re: new to forum!

Hi. welcome to AF!

so you're into only tamiya, fujimi & aoshima eh?
sounds like me when i was a novice modelor some 20 years ago...
but if you wanna go up to the next level of modeling, you have to get out of the 'comfort' zone' on those 3 brands & start exposing around for many other unique modeling stuff / makes!

there's much much more to do if you wanna build like some of the very skilled builders here in AF...the 2 moderators below are few of the elite examples!

you might be saying you'll not looking to make that detailed or superbuild car of your dreams now, but trust me...as time goes by you will!
that's the journey every modelor will go through to when time flies past.

$2K per month sounds like a good quota my friend! hehe...first go & study / talk to many of the builders here to learn their skills / experiences before you throw another $2K onto the same old 3 brands (same skill level).

that's all i can say & hope it can help you to a wonderful experience in modeling!

take care & bye!

Re: new to forum!

Wow, I haven't spent $200, let alone $2000 in the past 3 years. Must be nice. Seems that the standard welcome has been issued, and you apparently know what you are up against. Take lots of pics, and let us know what you've done, or ask what you've done wrong.

Great to see such dedication. Just remember, you will NOT get what you paid for all that modeling supplies if you decide to give it up. So, it looks like you are in it to win it! lol

Re: new to forum!

hey guys!
thanks for all the repsonses!
when i say i spent 2g's im talking mainly in supplies!
ive only purchased three kits as of right now!,the rest being in supplies!

the three kits are the carnia, a celica 1600gt and a "jenesis skyline!

all ive been doing for a month straight is mad reasearch! ive hit up many a web site and have printed off multiple "how to's".

this is the only one i signed up for though, it has what i like to call "classy" members! i really dig the results im seeing in each members work, newandold alike!

anyways, im in it for the long haul, at least this is what my wife has told me!

im still waiting for a few things to arrive so that i can dive 100% into this toyota!

as for other kit companies, im sure i will be reaching out to them in the sometime far future!

i just want to build things "out of the box" right now, with just minimum array from the original 1/1 car.

i want to get good and comfertable with what ever my own "technique" is going to be!

i look forward to bugging all you oldschoolers on the site for all your knowledge and info!

thanks guys!

edit: oh and id like to point out i have a masters in art education and im not really a "car" guy. the major aspect that has drawn me into modeling is the creative aspect. i am however a "reasearch" freak!

oh and im a hippie!
