Gmc Safari Van 96

Please help,

190,000 miles, driving fine at 70 mph just died, no codes on computer,
installed new fuel pump, still no start. Have some spark don't know if
its when its supposed to. Sprayed ether no start, gave a little gas thru
the intake no start. Get a little like its trying on initial cranking of engine
but only like a single cylinder firing once, about every third or fourth try.

Any advice would be helpful.

Giving to a kid for his first car, if we can get it running again.

Thanks Steve

Re: Gmc Safari Van 96

I'd suspect a problem in ignition. Check the CKP and CMP sensors and their connections (don't replace them, check them). Remove the ignition module from the distributor and have it tested. Test the ignition coil or remove it and have it tested when you check the module.

Timing chain streched out and skipped a tooth, if equiped with ignition coil(s) may have blown, or ignition mod went, or even with that many miles on it has it ever in its life had a tune up? Mail coil wire arching out, or even the coil itself?
