need some advice for visiting Florida

so i'm going to miami in the beginning of August for a convention. i can either fly into miami or to ft.lauderdale. i save about 70 bucks flying into ft.lauderdale but am worried about transportation down to miami. i really don't want to rent a car for a few reasons. 1) i'll be in meetings all day 2) i'm under 25 so they tack on like 25 bucks a day extra.

i'm wondering how hard it is to get down to miami from ft.lauderdale and am looking for some help on this?? are there shuttles or anything like that or would i need to get a taxi? any help is much MUCH appreciated

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

Wouldn't spending the extra $70 on the flight even out the cost of renting a car or getting a taxi down to Miami?

If i remember right, the drive to Ft Lauderdale from Miami is like 45mins to an houre.

Fly into Miami, you'll enjoy it more and it'll be easier. Miami airport is really nice as well although you'll be leaing it not flying out from it.

Ft. Lauderdale can be a long drive pending traffic and it's high time for horrible drivers, ya know tourists, out-of-towners, northerners.

I would just fly all the way to Miami. I think it will be a larger hassle driving there!

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

as a general rule, I try to get as close to my destination as quickly as possible, even if it means paying a little bit more.
More often than not, the simple saving in hassle and more importantly, time is more than worth the few extra ££/$$.

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

dude...my girl and i were going through the same dilemma last year..just pay the extra to fly into miami....and whatever you do, dont fly Spirit Air.. also there are a few ways to get to miami..th tri rail.. or a taxi and i think its a shuttle somewhere too...but when we first arrived, it was too late for the tri-rail so we took a cab...about 80 bucks. on the way back, we took tri rail.. it is cheap...but only runs a few times..they have an extensive busing system once you get into miami tho, so once youre at the airport, just get on a bus and thats all you need... Also rent a scooter..theyre great!!

Miami. The extra $70 would be chewed up in transportation costs that will take you at least an hour.

????? I thought you couldnt rent a car at all if you were under 25 or 26?, and you had to have credit cards....Did that change, or is that just an Ohio thing???? Or maybe that was Vegas???

I use to have a memory.....

most rental car companies will rent to people under 25. Most of them require you to be 21 though. Most of them also tack on a 25 dollar a day fee if you are under 25. its 10 a day for enterprise though

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

that depends how much you really want to spend travelling to where you want to be as opposed to being where you want to be.

Quite simply, what is more important to you right now; money or time?

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

However you get there, good luck

I hate Miami with a passion. Bad driving and the strangest people you will ever come in contact with in your life. Get them to move the convention up to Destin, Panama City, Pensacola Beach or any other place in Florida for that matter. Miami is the arsehole of an otherwise very beautiful state. If you do rent the car, be very careful driving. Miami drivers do not understand how driving is supposed to work. Maybe it's because they don't comprehend the language on the signs.

Re: need some advice for visiting Florida

What is the value of your friends and your lives? I hate to say harsh words about my home state but, for the most part, dade county is no longer considered the United states, nor do they want to be so. You would rather walk around with a t-bone steak a lion country safari than drive through the nieborhoods of miami. Do the duckys boys on the movie wonderers trigger any memories?
