Road-converted GTR's
Have any of the road-converted GTR's been converted to three-seater format as opposed to passenger to the driver's left and humungeous fuse/breaker board to the driver's right?

Re: Road-converted GTR's
I don't believe so - at least not from any evidence I have seen.
Always happy to be proved wrong though, as that (usually) means I learn something in the process. >8^) ER |

Re: Road-converted GTR's
It would mean removing this bank of switches below..... - I'm with Erik, I don't think any have been converted to a 3 seater.
I know of at least 2 longtail GTR's converted to 2 seaters, maybe more, let me have a look in my files

Re: Road-converted GTR's
Erik, is there any coherrent technical reason why this wouldn't be possible?
It seems strange that a few have been converted to road use, the ex-Larry Kinch 07R, Nick Mason's (012R?), the ex-Ray Bellm's, etc., whilst retaining the fugly fuse panel on the right hand side and one passenger possibility.

![]() I'd imagine it's either a cost issue (although Mason, Kinch, Bellm / Hsu etc could probably afford it ) or like you say, a technical reason. Perhaps there are too may switches to relocate so it would mean redesigning the dash / adding an extra range of dials a la the LM's. I suppose, if you have the money and want uniqueness and 2 more people to share the ear bleeds from the noise then converting a GTR to a 3 seater can be possible, at a price

Re: Road-converted GTR's
I really don't know what the technical limitations are. I think you would have to ask someone more closely connected to the McLaren Customer Care group to get a proper explanation.
One would imagine that certainly some of the F1 GTR owners might have wanted that extra seat and that through the process of road conversions McLaren would have found a way to accommodate that request if they could. That's my take on it anyway. >8^) ER |

Check McLarens web site out. look closely at the four LM pics (gallery). Oh dear, ones a GTR at Paul Ricard. Trouble is all papaya GTR,S look much the same, its the details that count. Mind you, I have been wrong about 15R for along time, now that 14R has surfaced.

Re: Road-converted GTR's
It seems that the ones that were converted to carry at least one passenger had moved a lot of the electronic "black boxes" over to the driver side right. And they had fire suppressions systems located there.

Re: Road-converted GTR's
Yes - go and take look in this thread paying specific attention to the GTR that was used to represent the 1996 version:

Comparing it with the wheel in #16R for instance, you can see it is quite different. #11R: - #16R: ![]() Not much detail is available of the exterior of the GTR from the video, however we can be certain it's a 1996 GTR based on the placement of the windscreen wiper. Taking into account the image that Le Man referred to on the McLaren Automotive website seals the deal on #11R as it is the only Papaya Orange GTR I know of that wears the roof scoop. ![]() Anyway -great video! It was excellent to see someone pushing the car hard like that. ![]() >8^) ER |
