What about an LX, GL, GLX, SVO, Ghia, GTS?

When someone usually says mustang they are just talking about an American performance car. GT (grand touring) is a slighlty more elaborate with a few more options the a base line mustang. Cobra is a powerfull all out monster car! The new cobra's pushing close to 400 hp with all kinds of different features then a normal mustang.

It all depends on years too. LX isn't really used much anymore, but was big in the 84-93 FOX era and can be associated with 2.3L 4cyl's and V8's without groundFX kits. Some people even associate LX with the newer 3.8L V6 mustangs. Most people now a days usually associate GT's with the V8's.

Alot depends on what year your comparing. But there are several characteristics that are common differences between 93-03 cobras vs GT. These include different brakes, various body and interior cues, and a driveline with a moddified or totally different powertrain. The exact differences would be broken down into the 93 cobra vs GT, the 94-95 cobra vs gt and the 96-03 cobra vs GT. With a 93,95 and 00 cobra R thrown in for flavour. The 94 and 95 cobra had different heads, cam, roller rockers, intake and a oil cooler. Different rear and front bumpers and spoiler. Also they have different brakes suspension and upgraded trans with phosphate coated gears and reinforced bearings and a lower first gear ratio. As well as different gauge pod and magnesium seat frames. The 96-03 cobras also have an exstensive list of differences, inlcuding a 32 valve version of the 4.6L engine plus all the above differences. Plus a different hood. Probably more differences, but not an expert on those years. The 03 cobra has another set of variables including a supercharger.

Here's a good book. Standard catalog of MUSTANG 1964-2001, by Brad Bowling. It has some pretty good info in it about everything from base models to Saleen and Shelby.

how about a book that does the whole "behind the scenes" on the mustang. with the people who designed it, what problems they ran into and how they fixed them, thought processes on the design table...so on and such forth.

Then you want this book. It is simple entitled "MUSTANG" and is written by Randy Leffingwell. It is published by MBI publishing company. Has alot of behind the scenes stuff, good book.

Just go to any book store. There are tons of books on Mustangs. Barnes and Nobles has at least 30 different books on the shelf, plus a thousand more that could be ordered.
