95 pontiac bonneville,hard starting

my bonneville has almost 165000 miles on it, and it tends to not want to start right away. i have to turn the key 10-20 times and rev the engine to get it to start. It tends to backfire, check engine light comes on every once in a while. Going to autozone on monday ot get a scan tool. Put new plugs in my car recently, wires look good. did the map sensor test(tapping on it with a screw driver) nothing happened. Unplugged it same problem, their is a clicking noise and vibration in one of the relays, i was told from a repair shop that its the power windows and sunroof one. My windows and everything work how they are suppose to and i always here it making a clicking noise when the check gages light comes on. when i don't here it clicking the car starts. Battery is not corroded. 13v, alternator test is good. Any suggestions.

Look for a bad ground junction in the harnness under the l/s sill plate, front, corrosion in that junction cause cause all your symptoms.

Thank you all, there was a wire hitting a different part of that clip, wraped the wire around the others and taped it as started up right away. I'll let you know if theres something else but thanks for everything

Did you confuse the MAF with the MAP?

i might have, i tapped on the sensor that is connected to the air hose off of the air filter box. The one on top of the throttle body.

That is the Mass Air Flow (MAF) on the air inlet tube. I just wanted to be sure you were "tapping" the right one. Have you checked the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)?

Have you had the battery load tested? Have you had the Alt tested? And have you cleaned the positive battery cable?

Re: 95 pontiac bonneville,hard starting

battery voltage is 13, alternator test was good, no corrosion or nothing on negative or postive sides of battery, this has just been happening the last 2 days after i played around with the sill plate which is listed above for me to look at, tehre was a wire that i thought was grounding out. car starts easier after it was been warmed up once.

So normal day, 800 am go to work, doesn't start right away.(5 minutes of trying). 1.30pm done with work starts up right away, do some errands starts up right away.-go to girlfriends house aorund 4. go to mcd's ect then sit with her till like 11 when it is hard to start again.

Check gages light comes on when it doesn't want to start, bat all gauges look good but voltage battery which is sitting just above redline.

Have you checked the fuel pressure when this happens?

Re: 95 pontiac bonneville,hard starting

No, i dont personally have the tools to check it myself. im a 19 year old college student, i like to work on cars but don't hav much tools. i normally borrow them from friends. What do i all need? Can you tell me what the throttle sensor is located and and how to make it its working. My check engine lights comes on and off when im driving. It usaully is on for one trip then off again for about 20 trips ect. Plan on buying a scan tool, was hoping to find someone near me that had one, no luck there.
