'87 Camaro RS

Ok Im new to the forums and am not very car savvy. But I need some help on Buying a Car.

So I was driving down the road one day and i look to my right and see this Red older style Camaro. The price said $1995 !!!!!! I didnt have time to go look at the car, so i went home later and went onto Craiges list for my area and looked in the car section. Sure enough it was posted the same day I saw the car. I have been wanting a new car since the day I ended up with the one I have now, which is an '03 Impala. It was my grandpas and he didnt take good car of it. Well I saw this and started drooling immediatly.

So This is whats posted on Craiges list:
1987 Camero RS V8, New Bright red paint, Chrome Iroz Z rims with new back tires, Ice cold AC, Tinted windows, New chrome exhaust, Edelbroc Carb, Runs and Drives 100% 178k Miles $1950

So I was hoping I could get an opinion from some one on this website about what I should do I managed to save $3,000 for a new car and this fits into my budget so thanks for you help,

P.S. I also saw a nice Grand Am at a dealer ship a while back but im not sure if its still there or how much it costs. It was orange, and had some nice looking hood scoops, some nice rims, and I think it has the origonal spoiler. But i think it would be more expensive sence it is from a dealership. So should I keep saving my money for the grand am, if its still there, or should I look into getting the camaro??

If so, the first thing I see wrong is that the owner lists it as a RS model, but it clearly has a Sport Coupe front bumper. That suggests to me that it was in an accident and the owner grabbed the cheapest bumper to replace it with, or maybe it was just the first one he/she could find and they didn't want to pass it up.

If it were me, I would pass it up. Just mainly because the fact that it doesn't have the correct front bumper. That to me is just a half ass thing to do, and there's no telling what other half assed things they could have done to that car. That's all just a matter of opinion though. For all I know, maybe they bought the car like that, fixed it up by getting it a new paint job and doing some mods to the engine, and now they want to sell it to move on to a new project.

Best advice I can really give here is to just recommend you go by and give it a test drive. See how it feels and rides. If it's meant to be, then you'll know.

Thanks for the help, man. I never would even guessed about the front bumper. But looking at pictures of both i can deffanatly see the difference. I dont know anything about the car but if I do look into it i will deffanatly bring that up.

OK I emailed the person about it and they said it used to be a funny car and they bought it. So is that good or bad?

A "funny car"? As in a race car? That would be bad. back to the paint job, it is probably a Macco paint job and won't last more than a year. You have 3k saved.....Insurance, it is going to go up with a Camaro. You'll need to look into that and plan for it.
And an 87 for $2k is too much. it isn't factory original, it has nothing "special" about it. And if you have emissions testing in your area you'll probably fail just on the visual because of the intake and carb.
Oh, and if it has the 305 and those miles are on the engine, it is about done.
If you've "always wanted" a camaro like that, you should be able to buy a cheaper one ($500 or less) that maybe runs and use your money to SLOWLY build/restore it to what you want. Doing this will have several benifits...It will give you something to do, it will help you learn about the car and what is what AND you'll know exactly what condition the car is in when you are done. It will also give you great satisfaction when you finish, to be able to look at it and say "THAT is mine, I built it myself".
As a former "race car" its condition would be greatly suspect, frame condition, tears in the roof (they do that under a hard launch with lots of power under the hood, if not properly re-enforced)

If it was a race car, does it have any interior left in it? Or is it a driver seat & milk crates?
