1.9 Rockers, Install
I am considering buying ZZP's 1.9 Rocker arms for my GTP (Series II S/C) amongst some other mods...
When installing the rocker arms, is there a specific way to torque them, and do you have to set them up a certain way...I haven't worked on a pushrod engine before, only OHC, and I don't remember doing too much valvetrain work. Basically I want to take off the valve covers, change the rocker arms and have no valve train noise after I'm done (i.e only install once, not mess it up and do it again). Any tips/advice? |

Re: 1.9 Rockers, Install
Any link?
Are these the ER or real 1.9 ratio roller rockers? You follow the rocker arm torquing procedure based on the instructions provided by the manufacturer or supplier. The stock specs per the FSM adjustment procedure is normally not applicable. On most 1.9 ratio roller rockers you have to be careful because you may have to upgrade to at least 105 lb springs or you will most likely get valve float above 6K rpms if you have a re-programmed PCM module. But the 105 lb springs may prematurely wear out a stock camshaft. To take full advantage the PCM module should be custom programmed to take full advantage of the new rockers and lift provided. The procedure is relatively straight forward and classified as a DIY job. I have SLP 1.8 ratio roller rockers with the hp pushrods and the stock springs work fine.

Re: 1.9 Rockers, Install
Ok, I was looking at ZZP's rockers...which of course is down as I'm typing this...they're 1.9 rockers, basically old rockers with welded ends and remachined, they're 299 bucks.
Basically I was looking to lower the pulley size on my GTP, but I want a KR free ride and a couple extra ponies from the supporting mods. Basically the list was 3.4" Pulley, Headers (likely Pacesetter), U-bend delete if not included on headers, probably the rest of the exhaust system as well, FWI, and a v1.0 tuned PCM from ZZP. From what I've read up that generally creates a KR free engine due to the extra air capacity (intake/exhaust) and I've read the stock fuel system can keep up to the demands of a 3.4 pulley. I know how to install all these parts (they're all pretty straight forward) but I don't have any specifics, such as the rockers if they had a different procedure. I want something to be overall reliable...you say the 1.9 rockers may cause more trouble than they're worth? I think the stockers are 1.6 right? So 1.8 would be better? Where did you get yours? |

Re: 1.9 Rockers, Install
Mind you also if you go 1.9 they will not work with an aftermarket cam due to the higher duration. So, if you want to do more modding in the future might want to keep that in mind.
Im planning on sometime in the future to get 1.9 rockers with ls6 springs . Im hoping to eventually be able to drop to a 3.25 pulley. Stock fuel injectors can handle down to a 3.2 I believe. As well as most aftermarket pcm's are only good for a 3.0" pulley I think...could be wrong there dont know the exact figure but its ballpark. Also dont forget a cooler T-Stat and colder plugs with your 3.4. (Autolite 104's work well with the 3.4"), and a front O2 extension. Your headers will take care of your u-bend too

As for the plugs and t-stat, I thought that was a given , then again I guess not everyone knows.
