Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

For numerous times,I have been insulted by Diecast collectors at a local forum. I felt very insulted because their remarks are basically hurtful and full of rubbish. I know you guys will say ignore them, but as a modeler I felt really hurt by their remarks.

1) Diecast last longers, plastic models do not last.
2) Our Diecast are expensive and quality, yours are just plastics
3) Our Diecast will crush your plastic models to smithereens..
(Reason: plastic will crush easily)
4) Whenever I post some works from other superb modelers, they will ask:
wow! is that Diecast?
Seems like to them, plastic models aren't worth to have qualities.

Personally I am both, collector and builder.. But the words from these pure collectors really hurt me......

What you guys think?

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

Hilarious...they're just jealous that they don't have any talent...you can create, they just open up the box...don't hang out there if they're such morons

Trust me...most plastic builders think equally derogatory things about diecast models and collectors...and who really cares? Idiots arguing about nothing on the internet...what becomes of that? Nothing except good opcorn: value.

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

They COLLECT built toys!!! We build them! OK...we build them, most of the time. WTF!! But I'm sure the majority of my unbuilt kits are of better quality than most of their diecasts.

1. Diecast last longer stock...you can do so much better work with plastics.

2. Obviously they have never seen any of Mark's Catterhams. Although he does do diecasts too lol. But shit...With and good builder and enough money, any plastic model would be alot better than any diecast. Diecast or mostly shitty. Horrible mold lines that they wouldn't even sand down before painting. Bad panel gaps. And just shitty accuracy..for the most part. Very expensive($100 range), that is a different story.

3. Well...rock crushes both.....WTF...who would use a fucking diecast toy to smash a plastic model? I don't know how it goes over there, but anyhting I have built..or even the diecasts I have I kno....would never be near anything that would crush it.

4. Clearly, they are morons.

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

Are you serious that you feel insulted? Why do you care? I would be more insulted if someone was joking me for my hobby of building model cars, rather than a silly debate about diecast vs. plastic. Don't get so worked up! Ignore them. You should already be well aware that you put more time and effort into building a plastic model car than buying a diecast and unpackaging it.

I think they can't resist the temptation to needle somebody who can't take a joke.

Laugh it off!

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

If anybody will tell me that a diecast model (any diecast model really) is better, expensive, exclusive, or more of a "model" than the models I have build myself - I will laugh right into their face! They probably never saw anything better than Exoto or an CMC diecast, and know nothing about hand-built models, be it plastic or whatever. Just ignore people like that.

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

I always give one simple single answer:

When I build scale models (plastic or resin or whatever you want that is a kit) they are accurate, precise and right !!!
just bring me some of your diecast and let's count mistakes...

Die cast always have bad, missing or wrong details... Unbeatable answer !

I always give one simple single answer (only if I have time to waste answering such completely idiots ):

(only fools or idiots who even don't know anything of the models they use to buy and the cars they should represent can think that expensive means quality - just look at Autoart rally cars !! )

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

diecasts are often far less accurate than a properly built plastic kit

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

Yeah. I've never seen a diecast with truly good paint quality (terrible orange peel usually), shiny chrome trim (always poorly-applied dull silver paint), remotely accurate wiring or plumbing detail, or reasonable underbody detail. Accurate? Hardly...I've never seen a real car with huge, visible screws underneath. In my opinion, buying diecasts is not a hobby. It's merely collecting, costs a lot, and doesn't seem like very much fun. And although you can remodel a diecast, I suppose, it's hard to customize, get different paint schemes, or detail something that is made of metal. And for their information, unless you sit on them, plastic models last just as long as diecasts. Hint: plastic doesn't rust.

Re: Have anyone Insulted Car Modeling?

Those who argue are people who cant and lack the skill to produce basic built plastic kits and have been sick and tired of trying to get a nice shine. As such they turn to diecast to get such satisfaction :P

The fun is in the building. What kind of fun is buying something made already? Might as well be collecting stamps.

I completely agree. I have some nice diecasts, but I hardly ever look at them. It's a totally passive endeavor that requires no skill or effort. Hey, you can collect diecasts even after you're dead - just put a want-list in your will!

Some hobby.

Just my thought.

I guess I'm the first (ok I know I wish I'm in good fellowship) prototype of a new modelling figure: "THE WIP COLLECTOR" ROFL

Ok this discussion is silly as a friday's OT thread would be
