1995 Ford Windstar Power Windows Inop (Front)

Hi All,

I recently obtained a 1995 Windstar, and the fromt power windows do not work. The aft vent windows work fine, and the fuses are good.

When you press the window switch, you can notice the interior lights dim a bit. You can also hear a relay click when acftivating the auto down. The previous owner said that they both stopped working at the same time. I guess maybe both of the motors could have gone bad at the same time, but I was thinking maybe something a little more simple that I am overlooking.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cheers,

Jeff

Re: 1995 Ford Windstar Power Windows Inop (Front)

I'd recommend doing a search on this subject and do it for all Fords, as they are basically all the same and have the same problems. The closest vehicle to the Windstar is the Taurus and I have read much there on this issue as well as here.

Does your pass window not even work with the pass switch? Do all switches give you the same response, ie. push switch, relay click and lights dim, no motor sound or movement? Will the lights dim with both up and down. Try listening for any sound at the door for the window motor. I don't expect your relay to be bad with your lights dimming, but it could explain both windows going at the same time. They have been known to bind in the bottom position. Don't know about closed position, but I'd think it could happen. It would interesting to know how much current the window motors are pulling. I'm afraid you will have to open up a door and test for voltage at the motor and then run a hot jumper and a ground jumper to the two motor pins to confirm if it works. You will want to switch the wires on the pins to see if it goes both directions.

I would suggest tapping the window motor with a hammer and see if the motor than works, it could be that one of the white nylon gears in the window motor has some shavings that are jamming the gear, and yes it can be takeb apart and cleaned, and you should get another couple of years out of it.
