95 window motor binding repair tips needed

My driver's side window is having trouble going up and down, especially up. It seems to be getting bound up. The window will tilt some when going up enough to stop the motor. But it is also getting stuck when all the way up and when all the way down. I'm suspicious of the regulator, maybe the motor mount, but am afraid the motor may be going too. The door has had a loose sounding clunk inside it for years, but I let it go as everything worked, and I have plenty of other rabbits to chase. Those are my hunches and info. I'd love to have some insight and suggestions what may be wrong, need to repair, what I could get ahead of time to more quickly make the repair, expected cost for what you think needs replacement, recommended places to get parts and whatever else you think would be helpful. Thanks so much.

Re: 95 window motor binding repair tips

Look in the bottom of the inside of your door.
From what you describe.....it sounds like you may find the rail for one side of the window laying there.
This would be the rail for the outer....toward the rear of the car, side of the window.
I had this break off on BOTH front doors.....the spot welds break.
The fix is super easy........but you have to buy a new rail from the dealer.

I did buy a new motor/gear unit....a Cardone unit......and had to splice the wires as the connectors were not the same.
If you get the motor wires backward.......the window runs opposite from the switch.....so you just need to reverse the wires.
The motor bracket also did not match up.......

The first in series of pictures that show removal of the interior door panel.

The first in series of pictures that show the window motor replacement.....YES, you have to drill out the holes next to the "*"s to get to the bolts that hold the motor in place.

The track that breaks off is somewhat shown in this picture.

The replacement is just a bolt in place repair.

Re: 95 window motor binding repair tips

Thanks Wiswind for the great info! It seems overnight the window had a miraculous healing and is operating just fine, but my long term prognosis is guarded. I wouldn't be surprised something is going out of shape or wearing to the point that I will have to do something. I may have just forced it out of it's track or something, and now it is back to whee it should be. In the meantime, I will hang on to the info from here until I need it. But for now I will wait things out and hope I don't have to do anything before its final burial.

Re: 95 window motor binding repair tips

Wiswind, thanks for the nice pix. Any idea how much the Cardone motor was? Where did you buy it? You said you had to remove the motor strap/bracket for the new motor to fit, since it was bigger or different shape. So did the strap hold the motor at the three bolts so without it wasn't a big deal? Thanks for your input.

Re: 95 window motor binding repair tips

When you remove the motor, do you have to lock out the regulator somehow? I read somewhere that there is a spring that needs to be dealt with somehow. Will the window fall when the motor is removed, or does i just come out with the regulator holding everything in place?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers...

Re: 95 window motor binding repair tips

I bought the motor from www.rockauto.com
I broke the motor bracket off and the unit was held in place just fine with the 3 bolts.
I did not have to do anything special to support the window......I just removed the motor / gear unit and put the new one in.
