Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

Whats up guys, seems like i have a new problem everyday lol. Ok, for the past few days I am hearing a strange noise from the front part of my engine on the pulley side, it seems to increase as i hit the gas a bit. So I thought ok, the tensioner pulley is gone or going because that is where i hear the noise. So I went to Napa and got one and when i took the old one off it had "play" and you could hear the bearings spinning, so I thought awesome...that must be it. Well I got the new one on and the noise is still there, visually it all looks fine so I dont know what else it could be. Its not all the time i get it and it seems to get worse as the car heats up a bit. Any ideas? ps. I know my alternator belt looks like it needs to be replaced so could that be it? thanks ~Joe

Re: Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

IT could be a belt slipping, or it could be the bearings in the alternator or other belt driven item.

Re: Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

Well the noise seems to be coming from right where the tensioner is or slightly underneath it...but it definetly in that front area. thanks guys.

Re: Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

Have you taken both belts off and spun each pulley by hand to feel for roughness?

Can even run the car for a little bit without the belts just to make sure the noise isnt present without the belt. Just to verify it is a pulley noise.

Re: Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

ok, just to update my thread. I had fixed the tensioner and it didnt help so I was thinking water pump after someone had told me that it could be going. So I bought one yesterday for $42, on my was home I heard a slight boom and the boost guage was reading 8psi, so I thought ohh sh@t. I pop the hood and my idler next to the crank was gone burned off or shredded. So I bought a new one and it was a pain getting the allen screw off but I did it and now the noise is gone and all is good boost guage back at 10-11psi. So thanks for the help. ~Joe

Re: Weird Noise, comming from pulley.

I got the exact same noise for my 1996 G20. So do you say it was from the water pump? Thanks.
