Complete: Shelby GT500

Finished the 1/24 Jada GT500; overall I'm pretty happy with it. I ended up using Porsche Cayman wheels. Paint is Ford Windveil Blue.

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

Ok, so those Cayman wheels really do set it off. Reminds me of the initial release of the Shelby GT 500's first set of spoke wheels. Looks good.
Bob, did you lower the ride height at all or is that stock? That straight on side shot looks great.

I still liked all the other sets of wheels you displayed on it.

Glad I bought the kit. I'm going to slam it out for a quick fun build.

The ride height is "stock", but honestly it's easily manipulated. The axle stubs on the suspension have vertical slots, I inserted styrene strips into the nylon wheel retainers that were cut to length to fit in the slots. Primitive, but it works and is easy to get ride height set.

This was a pretty easy kit to build, no major problems at all, final assembly is pretty quick.

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

Looks really nice

I'd love to see a couple of hood pins on it though

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

I just bought this kit, but has not started yet - it is good to see one built and to know you had no problems during the build. It looks way too cool to me, I like the color and the rims choice too. Very nice build overall, congrats!

Sweet build.

The color is awesome. The Cayman wheels are fitting and work well.

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

Dam Bob!!! Looks very decent for the Jada kit. How does it size up to the Revell Gt?

bigfrit, here is the box art(horrendous at that):

Jada is known for their big wheel diecast cars. This Mustang is one of four total kits they have put out.
Mustang
Corvette Z-06
2009 Camaro
Ford GT

The box art is the worst part of these kits. They are actually pretty nice little jewels inside. They aren't wrapped like our normal kits are but sealed with Jada tape like Revell of Germany does.

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

Gotta say, it looks as if it presents better overall than Revell's opcoming kit will. And Bob, how in the hell do you crank out that kind of quality so quickly?

Oh, and doubtless you've seen the bad news on page 51 of the latest issue - looks like Revell is recycling the GT's tires and tooling the new wheels to fit, for both upcoming Shelbys.

Oh well - at least the new Hertz model gives you something to use for a Bullitt...

Yes, those wheels looked too small on those. I doubt I'll even get the Revell GT500, and I have plans for the Hertz model; I have some wheels that will work from a Maisto Mercedes SLK diecast.

Re: Complete: Shelby GT500

Thanks for all the comments.

I had to beef up the wheel retainers; I cut some styrene tubing and fit it over the stub axles on the Mustang and they attach to the backs of the brakes. Pretty primitive, but works. You want more accurate detail, rob a Revell Mustang

For comparison with the Revell kit, here it is next to my Revell GT:
