01 cvpi book time

Anyone have an approximate book time for swapping a motor on this with a junk yard motor? No major items to replace as the junk yard motor came off a police unit also. Thank you

Hi there Kev. Alldatapro gives 8 hours to swap complete assembly without swapping any parts. If you transfer all fuel and electrical units, it gives 11 hours. Where ya been? Ford hasn't broken?

Re: 01 cvpi book time

It's been a long winter here in NH. Don't like to work on things in the winter if I can avoid it.

Last question: A friend tells me the intake & exhaust manifolds are different on the 03 vs 01 motor. He went to swap the intake from the 01 & noticed the heads are physically larger on the 01 4.6. Is there a design difference on the 03 or is it possible we got a non police 4.6 even though I was told it was? Thank you

Both the 01 and 03 heads are the PI heads. They were on the civilian and police motors. The civilian and police motors are physically identical, so it wouldn't matter if the heads were from a police car or not.

There is a difference in the intake manifolds between 01 and 03, but only the coolant passage at the front of the manifold. The older version was made of plastic and prone to cracking causing a sever coolant leak. The 03 intake manifolds are updated with an aluminum coolant passage. I don't think you can buy a new intake manifold with the older plastic coolant passage anymore since it's a matter of time until it fails.

As for the different exhaust manifolds...I have no idea. The only difference might be that the 03 went to rack and pinion steering, which could have changed the length and angle of the steering shaft from the firwall to the rack. Maybe the exhaust manifold was modified for the rack and pinion steering?
