I can think of a hell of a lot more useful things to spend $200+ on to get more from my truck than the measly 10 hp or less the exhaust might offer, that's why.

Who gives a rat's ass about exhaust on a 4X4 Nissan Truck?!?
Tires, Suspension, Exterior, Interior, air intake etc, etc... Thats where the $ goes.

I guess if you wanna rice it out then it might be a priority... Personally the idea of spending cash on it and then listening to the unit drag on rocks etc would suck.

I think when combined with a better breathing intake an aftermarket exhaust can help horsepower. And as my truck approaches 5000 lbs empty I'll take it. I wouldn't bother putting the exhaust on with a stock intake though. I had the Calmini exhaust on for about 3 days before I mosi'd the tip, oh well, I didn't buy it for looks. I also broke the pipe off aft end of the muffler and had it welded. It looked like a press fit.

aero_steve is right. Putting the exhaust on didn't do much (maybe 5 HP max.), until I put in the intake too. Combined I did get a significant increase in power. I don't really see the point in doing anything fancy and I don't care how mine looks...I just wanted something with better breathing. BTW, I have the Gibson exhaust without the tip installed so it looks pretty much just like the factory system from the back except I cut off the pipe shorter and twisted it up higher so it's less likely to get Mosi'd (my stock one had been Mosi'd). I think it was a worthwhile mod, but not soemthing I would do for looks. It's just an exhaust pipe!

let me ask you a question. why do i see so many suv's that are constantly waxed and never dirty? i personally find that quesiton more baffling than wondering about noise-making-bolt-ons.
i fear the day i hear a rice exhaust and lexus/altezzas on an xterra.

also, even the stock exhausts out for the xterra don't have tips that're much bigger than stock. so when you refer to the xterra's exhaust as dinky i'm assuming you want some kind of grapefruit-cannon exhaust? that's gross man. gross.
