Angry shifting cable maybe?

I have a 92 gm and I went to drive it and the shifter went up and down and wouldn't shift? It has alot of play but wont shift? Help me out. Is there a cable or pin or what should I look up. Let me know another web site to look at if you can.

Re: shifting cable maybe?

Look at the bottom of the steering column inside the car. There is a bracket that is held in place with 2 little bolts. See if these are loose. If they are, tighten them with a T15 torx bit. If they are tight, there is a possibility the shift tube in the steering column has broken. If that is the case, let us know and we can search the information and post the repair. Also check at the transmission where the cable attaches to be sure it is tight.
