Are you talking about the dipstick tube or the dipstick? If the tube, remove the bolt that holds it to the engine and then you can probably twist it out of the block. If it will not twist, crawl under it and use a hammer and chisel to drive the tube out of block. There is a place where it sits on the block that has a shoulder on it. Use chisel there.

Re: how do i remove a broken dipstick?

take the dipstick tube out, if possible, and get the dipstick out.

If not possible ... you could take the oil pan off and pull it out from the bottom. Sounds like alotta work? It is.

I had a Nissan Pathfinder come into our shop and the same thing happened. Couldn't take the dipstick tube out. The oil pan was like a 6 hour job. So I got a new dipstick and pushed it in and pushed the broken one into the oil pan. I drained the oil and fished the broken dipstick out through the drain hole with a flexible magnet. LUCKY! Hope you are too

Re: how do i remove a broken dipstick?

If the tip of the dipstick itself is broken off it will drop into the oil pan and stay in the pan. You could drain the oil and see if the tip of stick will come out with the oil. How much of the stick is missing? It really should be removed, but odds are there will be no damage if it is just a small piece.

Re: how do i remove a broken dipstick?

IMO its not going to hurt a thing.you could drain & try to fish it out....but if its 1'' it will just sit on the bottom & maybe get stuck to drain plug if its magnetic.GOOD LUCK
