2002 GT Ignition Switch?

Hey guys hope all is well.

2002 GT Grand Prix 75,000 miles Dual Manual Climate Control.

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my problem.

The problems are-

At first there was a slight delay of the lights automatically turning on at night.

Then the fan wouldn't work occasionally, neither would the rear defroster.
When the fan wouldn't work as your driving it would come on out of the blue.

Today the lights took forever to come at night, then the fan wouldn't work. When you would turn the fan on the headlights would turn off (dash lights would stay on) but the fan would not work unless you placed the dial on 5 then the fan would turn on and the lights would come on but nothing on 1,2,3 or 4 the rear defroster would work then also.

I seen nothing identical but there were a few things like when the ignition switch is bad. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I agree with Bob, it's time for an ignition switch replacement.

Thanks Bob & Rich, is there any brands to stay away from?

I know AC Delco would be the best but not nessesary the easiest to find.

Thanks

Re: 2002 GT Ignition Switch?

You're welcome.

I would stick with the AC Delco switch. Doesn't cost that much more considering even the aftermarket ones go for around $90.00. I understand there are aftermarket ignition switches made by Duralast marketed by Autozone but I have no knowledge of history and maybe only available for up to the 1999 model year. It doesn't hurt to shop around with the major auto parts stores though. Let me know if you need an AC Delco parts source.

Re: 2002 GT Ignition Switch?

Thanks again Bob, with the sub zero weather we had in Chicago over the weekend I needed to get this fixed. Another thing was availability and Auto Zone was the only one who had it stocked so I ended up getting the Duralast for 90.00.

I will post if I there is any future problem with this brand.

Re: 2002 GT Ignition Switch?

Thanks for the feedback. Actually, if you could let us know how the Duralast brand ignition switch from AZ works and installation problems, if any. At least it may be a good alternative to going with an AC Delco one to include a cost savings and better parts availability since it is supplied by Autozone. Good luck with the install.

Sure, I already installed it and there was no problems the switch fit like a glove and your instructions worked great.
