disappointing drive today...

well, after all that shit i went through, removing the exhaust housing, braking all 4 bolts, shipping to slowboy, paying for them to do nothing, paying a local shop to drill/tap the holes in the turbo and porting it, and installing a cat... I"M STILL GETTING BOOST CREEP! though i can tell that it is MUCH better! its still bad, i have boost set to 15psi, in 3ed gear by about 4500rpm i'm around 17psi, and only got to 5k where i was close to 20psi, since my car is not tuned to run that kind of boost... i'm back in square one, only $250 less in my pocket... i'm so pissed, i wanna just put back on the T25... its almost that bad! WTF?

Re: disappointing drive today...

Why did you go through all that and not get a bigger flapper?

i was told at the time that the small flapper is fine, the bigger ones blow open after 17psi, and after tuning and such, i'm hoping to run more around 21-26psi... but i'm not their yet... if i creap to 20psi from 15psi mbc setting, you think it will hold 21psi to redline if thats where its set?

Re: disappointing drive today...

You should have just went to an external wastegate the first time then you wouldn't be having these problems.

Sounds like someone gave you some shitty advice, I'm pretty sure the bigger flapper is commonly regarded as the solution to creep. Since the Talon is going to be DD'd I am going to have to cool the plans on that hard, but a bigger flapper so I can actually make a redline pull is something I would absolutely do if I have to take out the turbo.

But yes, you are right... when you are creeping to X psi and you have it set at X+2 or whatever, it shouldnt be creeping. On that note though, I dont know what boost it'll hold to redline though, being a smaller turbo it might fall off.

Re: disappointing drive today...

Dustin - I believe it was Kevin that told him about the bigger flappers blowing open a little on higher boost.

Here is the thread, if you also read what Kevin says you shouldn't be running 15psi either.

Re: disappointing drive today...

I also posted like 5 years ago that the external dump O2 housings are worthless for reducing boost creep, but no one listened then either.

I don't know what's been done for porting, but that's where all the boost level reduction comes from. If you're sure you're porting it properly and you're still not getting results, make sure there is nothing mechanically wrong. Test the actuator with an air compressor and a 5 dollar pressure regulator and gauge. Run with no boost controller to eliminate that. Etc.

Re: disappointing drive today...

Ok, I remember now. It could still use a lot more porting IMO, if it's still like it is in the pics. What did it go to SBR for, more porting or something else? If you can afford a few weeks downtime, send that POS to me and I'll drag it over the finish line. This is a one time offer though.

I do have friends and local club members that run completely unported housings without creep, but I'm pretty sure all of them are running ~20 psi daily anyway. If you really want to run like 15 psi, it takes a crap load of porting...

Re: disappointing drive today...

I get a couple psi creep at about 22 which takes me into 24 region with a ported exhaust housing but I don't mind I just account for it

Re: disappointing drive today...

I think the biggest problem is that the flapper wont open 90 degrees. I back when I had an internal wastegate the actuator came disconnected from the flapper and that thing wouldn't build but maybe 1psi of boost. I think if yall could find an actuator with a longer push that would open the door more the problems would be solved with very little porting.

once i get my DD this will be a definate "will do" for me, however, i am not planning on running 15psi, i'm actually wanting to be more in the 23-26psi range or well, whatever it takes to max out flow on the E316G... just havent got the time to tune it, and as for now, its a daily driver, so i dont really need to be driving to class with my computer trying to tune, and doing pulls and end up with a blown ICP... or worse... so, only time will tell... but if the offer still stands when i have another DD, i will for SHURE take you up on it!
