e316g ported and ready to go!
well, after a little more then a month i (hopefuly) have all the kinks out, and HOPEFULY after this long, LONG, painful process, when i put it all back together tomorrow afternoon, i'll be running creep free!
here are some pics of the porting as promised...the inlet *note the holes for the bolts... OH yeah! ![]() close up down the inlet: ![]() decided while i was at it to let the wastegate open up a full 90* so... ported a little their to... ![]() ![]() check out that perfect fit! ![]() ![]() another pic of the inlet: ![]() gasket match is almost perfect! ![]() well, anyone have any inside about boost creep still being a problem with an External dump o2, and a full 3" turbo back (no cat)? |

Nice port job musta taken a while. Good job. I think your boost creep will be out the door.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
To tell you the truth I never noticed or even understood boost creep when I still had a Big 16G and when you switch to external wastegate you finally understand what boost creep meant and how good it was without it. I would prefer external WG over internal any day, only bad things is the dump tube which might take a little fabrication. 16G is the ultimate street turbo for me. Always loved it. Very nice on the porting job.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
What'd you port it with, and what grit did you polish it with? It looks like it could be polished a little more so you don't get carbon buildup, but other than that it looks awesome, great job!

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
I just polished my turbo and it took me 2 days. Also the intake manifold and fuel rail took me a day. I never want to polish again ever.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
With the right equipment polishing will take less time. But it's not cheap to get all the right stuff.
Porting so the flapper can open all the way is only good for getting more access when porting the WG hole. The actuator won't open the flapper any further than it usually does. On the outlet side, the divider between the main exhaust and WG exit area is way too thick IMO. I had to scoop that out all the way to the main exhaust passage, leaving just enough to get a little bit of gasket in there (port the gasket to match) and to not crack hopefully. On the inlet side, as you look down the wall that intersects the WG inlet passage, you can cut a shallow trough into it so more of the exhaust gasses "catch" the WG passage on their way down. I can't guarantee that this won't affect WOT flow at full boost when the WG is being used very little or not at all, but it never seemed to hurt my performance. It did however provide a noticeable reduction in boost creep on other turbos. With a dremel I don't think you can make the necessary changes mentioned here, it will just take you too long. I'd try it the way you have it, and if you still have problems at 20 psi (see other thread), pull the housing and get a die grinder and do it right. At one point I could have the turbine housing off and being ported in less than 10 minutes. The turbo can stay in the car BTW.

Hmm. I would almost consider it. Almost.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
WITH A DREMEL?! Holy shit son, I ported mine with an acutal fucking die grinder and I think it took me a solid 3 days of 8-14 hour days to get my head, manifold, turbo, and o2 sensor housing done.... and the head and manifold took about 3 hours total because they were just gasket matched and slightly opened up. Now doing it with a DREMEL, that takes commitment.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
Does the dremel still work after all that? Shit, mine gets hotter than a pistol after like a 1/2 hour of using it.

Re: e316g ported and ready to go!
I burned my last dremel up when I was painting my brakes. I grinded all that textured shit off of them.
